Stolen bass which pops on another website...

If it is the same bass, then, short of an official document from dhl showing a lost claims event, somethings fishy for sure. You mention that it was never picked up by DHL in the first post and i see you later say he handed it off. Thats the sticky point to me, if that part changed in his mentions.It is hard to believe. He filled a claim to DHL, plus it is a rather big shop... It does not sound clever to steal from your own business! Or he sold the instrument twice and knew he would get out of it by sending me one of the new ones.
Of course if he got the money back from DHL, he might as well not want to lose time on this and basically tells me not to worry.
Anyhow, I do have my bass, and am happy with it. No reason to worry indeed.
It never went into the system, but could have been "picked up" by a bad employee who never scanned it in.
you must be a really chill dude. that's impressive, if I cared enough about something to buy it in the first place i'd probably care if it got stolen during delivery.
and here I was hoping this was going to be like the other thread, where it showed up at a pawn shop and the TB'er got tacos while waiting for the cops to arrest the guy trying to pawn the stolen bass

No, they were "AI enhanced", which introduced artefacts that he seriously though meant that it was not the same bass. Things that were never there in the original photos. This led me to believe that he had something fishy going on, but it turned out just being ignorance. Unfortunate confusion that didn't add anything good to the thread.

Imagine needing anything other than 5 seconds of your naked eyes to determine it's the same bass. The body, neck and headstock, front and back, are all exactly the same.------

I suppose some people have no idea of how AI works. Which is kind of scary considering what it's used for. It won't be many years until nothing could be trusted. Ever.
This is a really weird thread. The OP was made whole but the seller. I am not sure why we are accusing the seller of being a fraud. The only entity in ANY of this story that could be mad is DHL. They are the company that lost anything. The seller essentially sold two basses and the OP got a bass that was preferred to the original one.

Not always but I try to worry about the things I can actually affect. That and Zoloft mainly for blood pressure but it helps me chill.
Yep, but there is a mystery involved. Why the bass popped up for sale again, and why the seller insists it's not the same bass.
The OP said DHL never picked up the bass. I assume this means the shipping process was initiated by the seller, but the bass was stolen before it could be passed to DHL. It's not entirely clear though. I'm still thinking the seller sold that bass to someone else and is giving the OP a story. Possibly the other buyer found a defect and seller decided to sell it on another site rather than list it on eBay as a B-stock item. Who knows...
We don't have any evidence that DHL did pay for it or ever had custody of it, just the word of the seller (who didn't refund the original payment, just held it for a future bass). The only evidence that DHL was involved in any capacity was a created shipping label, which can be done by the seller on a computer, doesn't mean any package ever existed, and are often used by sketchy Ebay/Reverb sellers in order to get access to the payment before shipping (an initiated shipping label prompts the system to mark the item as "shipped" and gives the seller access to the payed funds even if the shipping company never sees it). In this case, a seller can get dinged for selling an item that they no longer had available to sell and so had an incentive to not just cancel the transaction outright. If it was a larger store then they may not have even been aware that the item was already sold by someone else either in person or on another online sales platform when they printed the shipping label.

Wouldn't it be way easier for the seller to say that there was a mistake and the bass was already sold before you purchased it but we can get you another one at the same price? Bringing theft in makes the situation more complex not less. But either way the OP was made whole. Who cares why the store doesn't care? They just don't.
