Stolen bass which pops on another website...

Hello ! I just wanted to share my adventure of the last few weeks. I bought in June a Rickenbacker 4003W on an auction website (something ending with bay...). The shop had it listed available (which is, I think, mandatory on these websites), while the same model was listed unavailable on their official website. Since these basses are quite rare here in Germany, I bought it, including the extra price to cover the fees of the auction website. The seller accepts the order, and sends me the bass. Which appears never picked-up by DHL. I fill a claim, the seller says the parcel was stolen, and that he will soon receive another batch of basses and I can chose one of them, but no walnut. I accepted to take a black one, which I received, and I am perfectly happy with it, maybe more than if I had received the walnut one.

fast forward to this morning, I see a Rickenbacker 4003W popping on another website. To me, it is the exact same wood grain. Of course, I informed the original seller, who claims the bridges are different and it cannot be that bass.

Rickenbacker switched to bridge v2 around 2022, the cover of the bridge pickup was removed in April 2025, both basses have the no-cover bridge pickup. They can only have the same bridges (from factory of course). And I do not see any difference on the pictures...

Here are both basses. What do you think?

Clearly not the same bass by a long shot !!!
The OP's first pic if you look closely has a white CE sticker on the pickguard .
In the OP's pic of the presumed "same" bass the sticker is not there .
Case closed !

I would guess AI increased, if this is a thing (??). Because the resolution of his picture is higher than mine, an also higher than the original one.
Here is the best resolution I can get from the second add. Same bass to me...

On the other hand, the aggressiveness leads to pure trolling. I will ask moderators to lock the thread... What a pity!

Could be, which just makes his posts even more strange. Why AI enhance an image to prove something that is not true?

Edit: Why did you post this thread at all if you're not interested in the case?

If the original seller received a check from DHL, I don't think they can even do anything as they have been "made right". DHL may be able to try to open a case and get their bass back since they paid the original seller for it, but I believe DHL is just too big to care. If the black on you accepted from the seller was the same price as the Walnut, I'm not sure you have a claim as you received a product for the price you paid.

These are the right answers. The claim was filed and paid out by DHL. The seller got compensated AND sold another bass on top of that. Basically he has two sales. The best case scenario is that he would have to refund DHL and recover the original bass and then try and sell that. Its just not worth the time for anyone involved. Nothing sketchy just basic businessing

Friends, we can continue the conversation in this thread as long as all recall rule #1 at TalkBass.
