Stone/Doom Bassists Thread Part 39: Flip Flops & Zubaz!

So we played our first gig with the stoner/metal band on friday night, and overall it was really cool !
The two other bands were awesome, the sound was great for once, and we had something like a 100 people in the audience in a 25 m² room :D

And to make it even better, everyone told me how good I sound with the Rick, it was really nice to be able to play at high volume on my gear (read : with an amp that doesn't clip/fart every time I hit a bit too strong), and a guy approached me at the end to ask me if I wanted to play in his doom band !

I don't know if it would be serious to join a third group, but if I can make it I would have a space/psych/rock band, a more straightforward stoner band, and a pure doom band. I could die happy :D

Of course join the doom group, doh...

On other news, after 3-4 listens of the roadburn album I must say that it is just amazing... wish we could get both sets on vinyl though :(

Ron, are you guys gonna have those with you when you come in the UK, or should I order it online as soon as possible (since I guess they will go fast)

My poor girl took a stick to the eye a few weeks ago. Luckily it's healing up well.

Thanks! I wish they could both be on vinyl too, but its not really up to us. And since we felt the performance and sound quality was better for SWD set that's the one we picked.

As far as having them in the UK, in theory we will have them. But it might be cutting it close as well need to get the copies from roadburn and then ship them out to the UK so we have them...then again maybe well just have roadburn ship them to the UK and we can just grab them when we're out there.

I might have to look into getting one someday. Right now I'm pretty happy with my SVT-VR and 810, but I do need to sell my SVT-CL.

HMMMM

Yeah I'm happy with my SVT-VR for fast metal stuff. I was doing some power thrash/melodic thrash before wanting to do some chiller stoner stuff. The SVT with my B3K sounds great for stuff like that where I don't want to be super saturated.

The Orange is really sweet though. It's alot tighter in the low end and puts out alot of it. The SVT could get a bit boomy but this thing can rumble and shake the crap out of everything in my basement but in a very good, focused kind of way haha. It does break up easy but that's why I wanted it. For a dirty almost all the time sound. I set the gain to about 3 o'clock and master to taste and wail away. Don't even need my B3K with the Orange. All I'd need is a fuzz pedal really. Might set up the B3K for straight up distortion sounds.

It was definitely a good purchase. I'm a happy doom camper. :hyper:

Pics! I have a pit mix I love pits.

Did someone say pit mix?

This is Indica, she's a Katrina rescue. We started co-habitating shortly after the storm / me moving to Atl, she was about 12 weeks at the time. We've been roommates longer than my wife-to be.

Jammed with some guys last night, it went pretty well, we'll see how it goes. Also, picked up the weird wah enclosure fuzzrocious modulated delay in the classifieds... Looks like I may have found some stuff to downsize from the board after all... I may have some stuff available very soon!

I love my GT200. i like the natural OD because the preamp stays fairly clean and it is the power amp that generates the majority of the OD. having said that you really have to play at very loud volumes or use an inefficient cab to be able to turn it up loud enough to overdrive it. with my ampeg 810 i cant quite get enough OD without being too lous so that is why i use od pedals. my only complaint is i find the EQ in mine to be too subtle and it is hard to get a lot of variety out of it. however it seems the newer version of the Gt200 addresses that.

Compared to my 70s SVT, it has cleaner lows and low mids. much smoother and tighter and the OD is not quite as fuzzy and farty as the SVT. check out some of my band's youtube clips (http://www.youtube.com/user/monohbrau?ob=0) specifically the clips for The 460 and Clocktower, not ideal but gives you some idea.

Old Crow recently got a GT200 MKII maybe he can chime in but from what i understand the GT200 is cleaner and not as bass heavy as the AD200. It has more clean headroom and seems to have more output power. mine was scoped at around 195 watts clean and 320 watts with everything dimed.

Having said all the I am planning on eventually selling mine and getting a MKII.

Ah maybe the clip I saw just didn't do it justice. The player demoing it wasn't that great at finger style really which is what I play pretty well exclusively. He also didn't show any lighter-Mid OD settings with it. It was either totally clean or with the drive knob dimed.

The clips of you playing are quite sweet though. Cool that you're using a Rick since those are what I play too. Gives a decent idea of what I might sound like through one.

Yeah even the Orange beats out my SVT-VR in the lows department. Alot more focused. Not boomy at all.

And man I gotta say that if you had a huge beard we'd probably look pretty damn similar. I'm also rocking a bald head with specs haha.

Super curious about that wah/delay. Saw it in the classifieds. Planning on doing any soundclips? :D
