tube amps need matched loads, any mismatch results in less power, does not matter which type of mismatch.

Also for us multi cab'ers, what type of reactions do you get from sound guys?
When we played Chicago the guy told us that he kindve hated us because of that until we started playing, then he loved us. Setting up he seemed kinda annoyed having to walk around them before we stacked them, and micing them, especially since my guitar runs two different rigs and wanted mics for both. Then there was some small volume issues on the mic check, we had to turn down a bit, we tried to be as volume polite as we could. But like I said he loved us once the set was over so really none of this matters.

Solid state amps have a different setup, they should increase power with decreasing impedance. However they usually are rated for a lower limit so as to not exceed the power rating of the output transistors or output stage.
New cab day! I picked up the new Eden 212 and brought it to my practice space.

I tried it on top and below the 410 I have and I think it works a little better on top. The 410 has a little more low end, but the 212 has this nice slightly rounded quality that the 410 lacks.
I can't wait to gig with this? I played last night but with a ZZ Top cover band... Eden isn't really the right thing for that. I did get to play a '51 P reissue though.

most sound guys are idiots. for doom or anything with tons of cabs theyre even worse because 99% of them "dont get it". ive had guys see our backline and tell me they wanna get a sweet monitor mix going, i just roll my eyes. how dumb can someone be to think that any of us want monitors blasting in our faces with 8 cabs running 10 feet behind us. but it happens all the time. they also get pissy because 9 times out of 10 we tell them we dont need them. i didnt bring 4 cabs and all these heads for you to DI me thru the house, sorry lol. my dream scenario at every gig is for the PA to run vocals and keys/samples, and thats it. with the amount of stuff we have we dont need it mic'd thru the house. but sound guys like control and that pisses them off.
theres a guy named tarvo down at the hideaway in johnson city TN (if you played in Johnson city, chances are you played here). dude is the perfect sound guy. understands this style of music, asks what you want, is cool with whatever you want and whatever you are comfortable with, and the room sounds pretty solid. the sound guys at Krugs in fredrick MD were the same way, totally understand the point and were cool with whatever. im hoping as this style gets more and more exposure, sound guys start to "get it".

Sound guys used to hate us back in the day, we actually had a sound guy walk out of the venue and refuse to work with us because he said we were too loud (we hadn't even turned on our amps yet before he said this). Most are real cool guys, and once they find out we don't have vocals they love working with us.
These days we've worked with most of the sound guys at the venues we play around Chicago so they know us and are cool. Mic on the bass cab so I'm happy, mic up guitars and drums are we're good to go. Most will even try to push the PA louder than normal so we sound even bigger than we do. It's pretty sweet.

Indeed. My amp puts out about 180 watts whether it's at 4 ohms or 8 ohms. Of course, with more speakers, 180 watts can get me more volume.
As Ron says, very few solid state amps put out the same power no matter the impedance.

Class D stuff might avoid this rule by auto adjusting to different impedance but they generally still follow that rule.

The only soundguy The 5th Child has worked with didn't mind us. He just mic'd the drums and had two vocal mics, and just had us turn up our amps to match.

NBD coming next week hopefully. just snagged this guy to replace my grabber. word on the street is these things are close to 20 lbs, which means im stoked to have back surgery in the near future!

The sound guy that was at Ultra Lounge when we played said he was even in a stoner/doomish band, so he "got it", I think most of his issue was he didnt know anyhting about us and was afraid we brought all this stuff and were then going to suck. That wasnt the case. He even wants to play a show with us!

I had one of these loaded with darkstar pickups. Heavy as all hell but sounded incredible. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to stay in tune with the Low F tuning. Sold it to a friend, might have sold it too, sometimes I wish I still had it for something that wasn't tuned to low F.

and thats awesome when that happens. and to Rons point, its kinda cool when places will run us through the PA, but honestly i prefer they dont, because we've cleared rooms before due to just how brutally loud it gets. i love being loud and pushing air, but if people literally cant take it, then it just becomes us playing to an empty room, then after the show people are like "dude, you sounded awesome from outside!"
we played at 529 in ATL and the sound girl said the loudest band they ever had play there was Fight Amp, they marked off a spot on their board where they peaked at, we hit right below it, cleared the room except about 10 people who were brutally stoned haha. a club owner 2 blocks away showed up 20 minutes after our set, said he could hear us at his venue almost perfectly from outside lol.
haha, a guy just tried to sell that bass to me. too much modding done to it for me, resale would be tough if i needed to sell it.
if i have issues with tuning to A or G ill just swap the bridge out, im sure hipshot makes something i can use. btw, did you have trouble getting your low string into the E string hole? if its not top loaded i might have to sand out the hole (had to do this on the badass bridge on my 81 mockingbird last year).
and IYO, what was the tone like?
I played one of those in a store once. It was a great bass, I wish I'd had the money then to get it.
ive been pining over one of these for awhile, the dude i bought it from sent me pics back in november of 2011, i was shocked he still had it for sale.
also, anyone looking for some sweet basses, there is a guy in richmond on craigslist selling a kramer XL24 for 700 bucks. i was gonna snag that instead of this but i dont like the lighter finish on it. also, there is an ibanez lawsuit T-bird that was calling my name on gbase and ebay. a year ago john would have bought this by now haha!

Well as soon as I got it I strung it up for F so I didn't get much time getting to know it in a more normal sonic spectrum.
But in F I remember it had a strong low end but still even and balanced throughout the spectrum. That could have had to do with the dark stars too. I don't remember what gain pedals I was using back then. But I do remember I had it in my emperor stack days, so it would have been great to hear it with good cabs.
It was the only all passive bass I ever tried to use for Bongripper that was successful at it.
And also to your point of being too loud that it drives people away, that definitely happened more in our early days (or maybe we really did just suck) but these days most people realize what they're getting into when they come to see us. It's insanely flattering and awesome the amount of support we've gotten the last few years.
