Stoner/Doom Bassists 51: Back To The Future

Guitarist was no show. Put ultimate drive after el oso. Better. Instantly better. Hit the delay and holy ****. I thought the roof was caving in.

Blood Eagle is our best song. The intro is straight bongripper worship. The main riff is something between tidal wave of snarl and earthquake world explode. The vocals have a neurosis quality where they are yelled out. Syllable placement is key. Flows really well with riff. Chorus is still heavy, starting to get into psych territory. Some phaser and wah action with the faster psyche out part. Would be guitar solo. Comes together at end in wash of distortion.

Feel good, but melancholy about guitar. ..

exactly. im not doing weather report solos on any of my doom basses.

my 650B arrives on tuesday. stoooooooked.

haha, man, I play a lot around the 12th...15th even!!!

I'm jamming with my guitarist a lot and since I write 90% of the riffs - my hands tend to lead me where I wrote the riff on guitar.

lol, are bass players not supposed to do that?

I typically call myself a guitar player first - that's where I write everything. But I've never actually played guitar in a band. I work my ass off trying to find musicians to play the **** I write, but no one ever bites. But everyone always needs a bass player. I was lucky to come into a group of guys where the guitar player doesn't write at all. Which is perfect for me!

lol, theres no "supposed to", i just happen to keep it low most of the time and dont usually go up that high in my band. only for like slides and octave stuff, but im not up on the 18th frets playing riffs, just mostly used for fills and passing tones.

i just try to keep my lines as simple and to the point, i learned long ago that noodling in metal is awful. id rather underplay than overplay 10 times out of 10.

I can't noodle...at all.

I just have a bunch of riffs that bounce between open and way high up on the neck.

Heck, we ever get a recording I'm happy with maybe I"ll throw something up. I've always admired the guys here who are comfortable throwing up recordings of works in progress. I'm way too weird for that.

Sent my fuzzrocious back. Two of the three LEDs were uncomfortably (blindingly) bright. : / Shadow puppets on the ceiling bright. But hopefully it be a quick turnaround. I just couldn't see voiding the warranty or just putting something over the LEDs after spending that much coin for it.

Out of the loop, missed two whole threads...

Quick question while I catch up.
Band practice today, running the Blowtorch into the Big Muff like I always do - but today there's a weird farting sound from the cab. Worse on the attack of a note, sustained notes seem to be ok. Only happening when the Muff is engaged. Everything else sounds normal - clean tone, 250, Blowtorch. The owner of the cab reckons the voice coils in the speakers are fried.
If the coils are fried, wouldn't that stop the speakers working at all? Rather than only getting the weird fart noise when a certain pedal is turned on?

I'm stressing about having to spend money I don't currently have...

Oh, and whaddayas reckon of "Stoned Philosopher" for a band name? :D
Working on some sludgey stuff solo...

doesn't make sense. does even the muff by itself cause that?

have a whack through a different cab if possible, that will give you a definite yes/no answer.

This sounds kinda similar to what happened to my acoustic fridge. Got a nasty farting sound when playing above the 9th fret on the low string. Thought I had blown the speaker, but when I brought it to a tech it checked out as 100% functional.

Turns out the problem was a loose panel inside the cab. Took some diluted wood glue and ran it through all the joints on the cab and let it sit overnight and it immediately fixed the issue.
