Stoner/Doom Bassists 89: Father's Missing Voodoo

Do you have any neighbors that get so drunk, they might not be able to recognize their own house/apartment?

It is student housing. It just confused the hell out of me.

I figure if you rob someone the knock to surprise them ends when you keep doing it aggressively.

If you were a cop for some reason I'd hope you'd say it's the police and not bang around in the night like a creep.

Friend would call I assume before or after that.

Stranger drunk or not, pounding away.

Last night at like 12-1am some pounded on my door and tried to open it then beat on my window. No one had called me so I just later down motionless until it ended and seemed to move on to another place. Any idea what that was?

If you are going to love them and leave them you better start doing it at their place.

Rocking lots of old school hip hop this morning. Picking up that A Tribe Called Quest vinyl last night really got me in the mood for it.

Moving the Earth Fest was pretty cool, despite a mediocre turn out. I still had a freaking blast, because some bands we've played with that have really friendly band members like Foghound and Kingsnake were there and we all had a blast. The whole thing really felt like a family affair. Seeing Sixty Watt Shaman was pretty gnarly.

Whores/Lo-Pan tonight!

Bands playing for other bands can still be a fun show, but yeah it's a bummer when more people don't show up for those kind of things. There's a local promoter/music fan that puts together a Stoner/Doom/Sludge fest for his birthday every year and every year attendance is awful. Bands playing for bands - a lot of those bands even travel a decent distance to play there. I don't know how everyone gets paid - Door + booze wouldn't come close to covering costs.

Oh yeah them stock strings gots to go. That low E is the crappiest of the crappy.

That string alone without a setup immediately raises an eyebrow but otherwise it's impressive as hell, only got a few minutes to mess with it, but I can see it working well with a bit of work and adjustment.

I will say this this looks and feels way smaller than I expected, and a lot of people say it's big awkward and heavy.

Just shoot first, ask questions later. I thought that was the Texan way? :)

I dig my VI a lot but it hasn't really moved past "toy" status. I've used it in a few band practices instead of a regular bass and it handled just fine but it was/is still a bit too unnatural for me to use at a gig. Even if I were to use it at a gig, the only purpose it would serve would be to try something new and throw a curveball to the one guy out there paying attention to the fact that my bass would look different. I've written one tune for the band that had the VI in mind, but then I ended up just reworking the part for regular bass.

Could have been a hippie chick, low visibility and hair made it hard to tell. :p

I was sitting back waiting for that response LOL
Maybe it is hippies causing all the mistaken bigfoot sightings. I have been to plenty jamband shows and the smell is close to what bigfoot witnesses describe Bigfoot's smell as. Plus I am pretty sure the drummer Patrick Hallahan in My Morning Jacket is actually a Kentucky Cave Yeller :D

I've got 3 1/2 songs written for my noise rock project. I am excited!

Also...Moving the Earth Fest was fun but I did feel bad for the out of town bands but Laz had a great outlook. He said Supervoid was able to play in front of 50 people who have never seen them before.

This made me think that I need to play out of town more often.

I'm getting sick of local shows.

I bought a guitar recently and it's been soo long I hated the tone, but loved the playability. I feel much more comfy with this octave I guess. So it's like playing the guitar I always wanted. Joe I hope I brought that pack of rounds you sent me up to denton with me!

See If I got up to get my protection I've made my presence known. I remained still in the shadows and waited. If something occurred I'd move, and grab something like my boning knife and wait perfectly still again for movement. Then approach them swiftly without pause... I don't keep anything that goes bang in easy reach or ready.

This is WAY not doom/stoner at all, but I know a lot of you guys are obviously into other music as well. I did this remix of the swedish group NONONO's song "Pumpin Blood" for a contest. Changed it into a kind of piano driven ballad, straight remix, without adding any new elements. If you like it, voting for the contest is open to the public now.

Spam concluded, go about your business lol.

Any of y'all familiar with these?

It looks pretty cool and for $100.00 I'd be tempted to pick it up.

Not that bass in particular but i used to have an old arbor brand LP six string. It had its own thing going on with some unique electronics that i never quite understood, but it was a decent enough Asian instrument. That bass looks cool, I'd get it for a hundred.
