Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I'm thinking of selling my modulus flea given that I haven't used it consistently fin a band for about 10years. Only thing is, I don't know what bass I'd want in return. I'm thinking of a rickenbacker but am unsure how they do with the lower tunings. I was thinking of a jazz 75 RI, but I have a jazz bass already (just not as nice). hmmmm...any other recommendations???

Lots and lots of folks out there with tuned-down Rics. I use the Dunlop heavy core (115) in C and the bass seems happy.

down tuned rics just work for some reason

What a crock of crap. The pettiness and hypocrisy of those in power here is exceedingly disappointing.

I figure it's their forum, and no matter how they run it there will be a group of people that will be unhappy. On one extreme are the folks who are sensitive to conflict and rough language, while on the other extreme are folks who enjoy fully candid anything goes discussions. Since this is a bass forum centered around musicians and instruments, it makes more sense to lean on the side of the former, especially to cut down the number of flame wars that so many un-moderated forums devolve into. The worst example of the latter would be Youtube comment sections that almost always spiral down into the same old political or racial wars typed in all caps. That isht gets old.

For me, I think the balance chosen is currently a little to conservative, so I've cancelled my supporting membership and spend more time on the FB exodus. But I also accept it's their choice to make. Meh. Time to work on some of my new doom chords for tomorrow's practice.

I think his enjoyment of starting internet fights is increased by the bans it causes. He then has time to stew and foment his rage before he returns. No place on the Internet is a safe enough space for sartori, and no place on the net is safe enough from sartori... lol
Hah! I love it.

Still, did they think his taking offense to a slightly off color turn of phrase was "baiting" or something?

Strange days...you get cracked down on for offensive language, and then get cracked down on for trying to police offensive language?

Has there been an official statement of what exactly the moderators want out of this thread? Cause at this point it seems a bit like it's blood from a stone.

The whole exodus thing has me kind of bummed. I don't use FB much anymore, and I like a lot of the other facets of TB. I miss a lot of the humor from the back-and-forth, but all things change.

To be honest, the mods coming in and doing a little cleanup wasn't all that big of a deal to me, it is their site and completely within their prerogative. We, as a group, probably went a bit too far, simply because we'd had no "oversight" previously. It happens. I don't feel repressed or censored here, far from it. That being said, I understand the peeps wanting a place where they can feel comfortable.

It's a self-governing mini-community which occasionally needs prodding to stay in approximate line with the marketable side of the house.

Keeping the animals in the pens makes sense, when people go into other threads and rage it does no one any good.
Keeping the pens clean makes sense, if it's messy here it'll be messy everywhere.

But, it strikes me that there's a level of observance going on. I was one of the targets of Satori's outburst and it didn't really effect me, he said his thing and I disagreed. However, clearly someone decided that it needed further attention. How much of that is based on raging through P&W "big amp suck" threads and how much what happens in a "friends banter" thread, I dunno.

That leads me to believe that either some other average user is alert-stalking the thread, or one of the modstaff is still "gently" keeping us in line.

I'd say it's probably the latter. And, yes, when someone from this thread goes into another and causes a ruckus, it will get trailed back here. So, the easiest answer is two-part: don't get too wild in here, and, don't go to other threads and start a ruckus. Seems pretty simple to me.

No it was after that. S. taking offense to use of the word "rape" was not the issue. A couple posts later S. swore, saying "who ... are you?" with bad words in it. That was the offense, as mods had said no swearing, even using stars/symbols to mask swear words.

Never understood that policy myself. Why have a swear filter if you don't want people to use it?

But of course, their site, their rules, their discretion.

Was listening to these guys during a long road trip this past weekend. I had forgotten how much I love them.

There's a 1000 acre wildfire nearby my house, close enough that I got a pile of important stuff ready to load in the car in case it heads this way (important docs, laptop, bugout bag of clothes, etc). Listening to the scanner right now. Not gonna sleep that great tonight.

There's a topic for discussion....what gear would you try to save if you had time, but had to fit into a mid size SUV? If you were alone, no wife/kids/pets......2 basses (high end), 3 guitars (above average, a nice baritone), 4 amps (Danelectro vintage piggyback, 2 Traynor heads, GK 150mbe head), 2 Schroeder 1x15 cabs, 2 drumsets (70's Ludwig 3-ply and 60's Rogers Holiday)....expensive audio/recording gear....plus a few nice handguns/rifles + ammo. I know the answer would be 'as much as you feasibly effing can' but discuss anyway....the TV and stereo can DIAF I guess lol

Bass, reverb pedal, a few shirts I can't replace, a few albums and books I wouldn't want to replace, sleeping bag/bedroll, camping bag (which always has a few essentials ready to go - rope, flashlight, knife, hatchet, whetstone, matches, etc, etc), laptop, this sweet coleman steel-belted cooler I bought this summer on sale... that's it, really.

I'm not too terribly attached to most of the few material items in my life. I lived off a motorcycle for a year and a half and got used to getting by with not much.

Maybe my list will get a little bigger if I can finally find an amp/cab that I fall in love with. I've tried oh so many over the years, some pretty decent ones which I liked just fine, but never something that makes me stop looking for something else.

The guns & ammo. You can loot to replace the other stuff. #doomerstakewhattheywant

It'll be easy, after the apocalypse the landscape will be filled with nothing but cockroaches and Peavey gear that survived the blast.

The real work begins when you try to find a crew of road pirates to play flaming guitar for, though.

He would have only needed a small car if he would have mic'd up a combo.
