Stop drinking

sorry no humour in this post, I've asked myself more than half a dozen times if I can stop drinking.

I can. But I dont. I look forward to it, a lot, I enjoy it.

Very occasionally, (maybe once a year) I have a blow out and get very messy.
But on the whole it's just that, when i could have one, I have four. It doesn't go past that weekly, monthly, daily, but i can't do one

What you're describing is heavy drinking. But you can stop at a point. Then there is hard core alky who can't stop until he passes out, and causes major life disruption for himself and everyone around them. I have had both in my family. It's kind of a broad statement, I know, but a fair gauge. No guarantee it won't get worse. BTW I speak from personal experience as well.

When vices turn to habits, keep an eye on it. The anecdotes that may follow aren't about you.

You're a Mad Man kinda guy, there are other substances that become habits too. You are the best person to make an assessment and changes if nec

I don't think that's what he's saying.

What's he saying? He has 4 beers a month? I couldn't figure that out from his post. "...when i could have one, I have four. It doesn't go past that weekly, monthly, daily, but i can't do one."

I'm confused about the specifics. But if we're only talking four beers here, I really don't see this as a problem.

I don't think the OP's native language is English, which may account for that. It is hard to tell if this is an alcoholic who's in denial, or a moderate, reasonable drinker with a tender conscience.

Myself, I drink often but moderately. I'm a beer-with-dinner guy on a routine basis, but it's normally just one beer and half the time I don't even finish it. I tend to nurse them slowly. When I go out it might become two beers, but that's about it, very rare I do more than that.

If I read it right, he's saying he almost never drinks less than four, but only completely ruins his and everyone else's day once a year.

To me, that describes a problem.

What is this? The Anti-Saloon League? Who gets drunk off 4 beers? I'm joking, but c'mon... let's keep some perspective here. According to a poster in my doctor's office, 14 drinks per week for men is perfectly fine.

I'm not saying 4 is inherently a problem, I'm saying being incapable of less than 4 is a problem. Doesn't mean he's not functional, but it sounds like an issue from where I'm sitting.
