Strandberg club thread

You saw it? It wasn't there for long...
The only thing I find somewhat annoying about my .Strandberg is that the top horn is too short. It would be a lot more comfortable with the strap button at the 12th fret.
Sorry I do not have one. I think I'm pretty much done with normal sized (large body) basses so I'd really like to check one of these out. Butt I already have an Ibanez EHB which I'm quite happy with, and the Strandberg basses are very expensive. Why are they so much more expensive than the guitars?
So how much did you pay for yours? For me, they go for 40k sek. One of them is even 44k. That's 4k/4.4k euro/usd.

Some of their top line guitars get up there, too. But the basses are still a bit higher.

How's the build quality? I'll admit I've always thought the price on them is a little off the mark, especially considering the competition from Kiesel and Ibanez. I'm also surprised they haven't offered a 6-string version, seems like a no brainer.
I’m still checking mine over, but build quality so far has been top notch.

One of the main reasons for getting this was ergonomics, I have physical deterioration that has almost completely killed my playing. The Ibanez multiscale helped, and I figured that based on my quick trial of a Strandberg last year this would be even better. It’s not - the radical neck shape is painful after about a half hour.
Back it goes. I suppose I could look at Kiesel if I wanted an ultralight multiscale headless five, but my EHB1505MS will need to suffice. Hopefully my upcoming surgery will resolve some of these issues.

Yeah, I’m bummed. I really liked the tone and everything else about it, but when you want to cut your hand off after playing…
And it’s definitely not a fault with the bass. If my hands and other bits worked, it would be ideal. Keeping the ball of your thumb on that flat really works.

Was it hard for you all across the neck or were there spots where it was better and easier to play without physical pain?
It’s more keeping proper hand position, which the neck tries to enforce. I end up with my thumb over by necessity. They all hurt, but this one hurt much more than the rest.
I had a Prog 5 for a couple years. I wanted to love it because of the design and progressive thought process that went into it. In the end it didn’t work out for me. Here are my gripes:
If Strandberg could fix the things I mentioned above and be on a competing level with Dingwall I’d happily add one back to my arsenal. I do have a Strandberg 7-string guitar though that’s a joy to play. The design just seems to work better on the regular ol’ guitar and wasn’t adapted well enough (to me) for bass.
- Top horn is too short causing neck dive. Deal breaker
- 35” scale on B not long enough to deliver clear and powerful tone so it always sounded unbalanced to all the other strings and rather weak (even after hours of trying to dial in the pickup height to boost the low strings and/cut the highs). Drop tunings couldn’t even be considered. Deal breaker
- The knob placement so far up under the neck pickup got in the way of my double-thumbing technique which I use more often than anything else these days. Annoying, could get used to it, not a deal breaker
- 3rd fret was high on the lower strings causing fret buzz. fixable but very annoying at the price point
- Finish/stain is too thin, not durable, and came with a number of cosmetic imperfections like missing stain spots. Slap would wear the finish away quickly under the G string by the neck. Annoying at the price point but not necessarily a deal breaker
- Neck is thick af and rather uncomfortable, IMO (although I love the endurneck profile). I’d like to see it with a few mm’s shaved off front to back
- Chambered body. IMO/IME, chambering gives up solid attack for warmth and richness. On an already light bass, this is too much. Result is a very polite and pretty tone comparatively speaking. Some may love it. I am not one
- Some pots seemed too loose and I swear they’d move around a bit while I play. I’d have to constantly be checking their position. I was told this was a pot design thing and not a “problem” thing
- Bonus: they don’t make a 6-string and that’s my go-to config
