Strandberg club thread

I feel like I should follow up with an appreciation post. So here the things I appreciated about the Boden Prog 5:
  • Endurneck profile is comfy and almost fun to play, if not a bit too thick for my liking
  • The light weight makes it bearable for many hours of play
  • The ergonomic design provides a number of playing positions most basses can’t compete with
  • Headless design makes for a shorter bass resulting in fewer headstock dings when guitar players in cramped practice spaces don’t respect your personal bubble knocking their guitar headstock into yours. Grrr
  • The flame maple top is (can be) beautiful (some are really not so choose wisely)
  • The luminlay dots are priceless on stages when the lights go out
  • The unusual design sparks a lot of conversations! :p

New Boden Standard 5 Basses! Funnily enough, this cheaper version solves a couple of my gripes from 2 posts back:
  • knob placement doesn’t look to be as high and forward so it wouldn’t get in the way of my hand during double-thumb
  • Solid body adds a small amount of weight which MAY help with the neck dive I had with the Prog. I also prefer the tone of solid body basses
  • The price point is now on par with the Indonesian Dingwalls and other multi scale basses
  • Bonus: Fishman Fluence system allows both parallel and split coil! The Prog was, as I understand, only split coil and if you wanted parallel then you’d have to mod it like some have done. Ton of tone options on top of that
I'm seriously interested in giving these a try again once they start hitting stores. Alas, will never be my main bass as they still don’t make a 6-string but maybe I could find some place for it. Hmm…

I’ve got my eye on a TB’ers Boden 5 standard. The one thing I don’t hear anyone discussing more in-depth is the tone on the Standard. The Prog is chambered, but I’m really interested in knowing what the sound is like on the standard with the norstrand/darkglass setup. I’ve lost faith in the B string tone from others description. This would be replacing a Sadowsky Modern 5-24 Japan unit. WHICH I LOVE, but weighs 9lbs 4oz….so under 7lbs is very appealing.

Anybody able to describe what that Standard Boden original 5 sounds like?

I tested a Boden Standard 5 over the weekend and it shut out the Combustion and EHB 1505 I tried as well.

I already own Boden 7 and 8 string guitars, but the bass was hands down the most comfy bass I have ever played. And the Fishmans! Endless tonal options. I don't know how these aren't more popular.

I emailed Strandberg if there were any plans for a 6 string bass, and they said that it is something they have been considering, but they won't guarantee they'll release one. So thats a bummer. But maybe if these catch on they'll do it.

Well, I was looking at the Dingwall and the Ibenez myself. Not having the ability to play any of the 3, 5 string basses I was looking into, I came to this forum and this post pretty much sums it up..

Interestingly enough I’ve found their *guitars* don’t hurt. I’m trying to figure out whether it’s because they have smaller necks or if something changed in my left hand - my thumb arthritis is definitely worse than it was when I tried the bass.
