Strap holder troubles

My old faithful Cort action 4 string is having some troubles....

The lower strap holder screw has been loose for a while now, but the other day it came right out. Basically the screws thread has gone and the screw that holds my strap on can't be tightened.

I've thought of maybe construction glue, super glue, someone mentioned epoxy to me as well. Any suggestions for fixing this? It's not the worlds most deluxe bass but it popped my bass cherry and I do get kinda sentimental about it.

You could try to find a larger diameter screw....but the better fix would be break a toothpick into 2 or 3 pieces and insert them into the hole, fill hole with wood glue, re-screw in the strap nut, wipe off excess glue...and let sit overnight.

Also a slightly longer screw would get into some new wood.

Thanks guys any recommendations as to what type of wood glue I should try? I have some very heavy duty expanding polyurethane glue called structan but I get the feeling it might be like using a sledgehammer to do what a normal hammer should.

I've used the toothpicks without the wood glue and never had a problem.

I never use glue too.. But never done for any strap holder screw either. Only pickguard screws and alike.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!
That stuff expands as it cures and would get everywhere and ruin your bass!
Just regular Elmer's or Titebond glue. Nothing special. And not more than a couple drops.

I thought as much. Thanks for that, cause that stuff is very expensive too.

Use Titebond. Dip the toothpicks into it and stick as many pieces in as will fit. Break them off flush and then screw in the strap button.

The other option is to drill it out, glue in a wood dowel and then saw it off flush.

I would go the toothpick route myself.

Thanks Floyd, I think the toothpick route is for me, I'll give it a go over the weekend and see what happens.

I use matchsticks and PVA glue, leave it for half an hour or so and screw in.
