Just wondering has anybody had any experience using dimarzio clip locks on bass.. are they sturdy ? can they cope with the weight ? I have been using strap locks which I am never going to use again on my bass as recently the one on the bottom of the bass pulled out but left the snapped end of the screw stuck in the bass with no way of getting it out. I had to re drill a hole next to it and now I am constantly worried that this will happen again. personally I think that the problem with them is that the bass is too heavy and they stick out too much leaving a lot for the weight of the bass to pull on.. the clip locks appeal to me and I have a feeling they will work better.

I play a Fender Modern Player Jazz

yeah I've noticed a lot of the bands I listen to using them and doing crazy poopie on stage... never using strap locks again though maybe on something lighter than the bass they would be okay

I never thought about it before, but it seems that Dunlop Straploks don't protrude as far. Either way, I use them on some pretty heavy 6 string basses and have never had a problem.

I use washers on all of my basses and I've been known to get rowdy when I play. Just unscrew the strap button, put the washer on the button and then the strap and screw everything back on. I've never had a problem with any of my instruments this way. The only downside is that you can't take the strap off without unscrewing the button again.

Were they actual Schallers or knock-offs? I've seen plenty of fake Schallers made of some awfully soft metal. I would think your problem is an anomaly, and at any rate, the Dimarzio clip locks probably would not help. The still have to be screwed into the bass; if you are breaking screws, and if they are of decent quality material, I'm not sure anything can help you.

So the screw failed and you are blaming the straplock. Now your strap is fastened with a screw, but no straplock and you feel better about it?

So you took off a part that didn't fail and replaced a failed part with another of the same? And this makes sense how?

The straplock sticks out too much so there is too much weight being put on the screw... if the screw and the strap were closer to the body, like with the clip locks then this would no longer be a problem.. I have put the strap lock back on because I have nothing else to put on at the moment and I am just being careful with it.

yes they are genuine schallers and they did not fail just the with being on the bass there was too much weight on the screw is all

I have schallers and they work great with the black screws that have the black oxide. That hardened the screw. If you use the bass factory screw they will break because they are not designed for the staplock shape. The Dimarzio clip system works well. I use to have it in my ltd bass I change it because they don't have the shoulder padding.

Schallers sit flush. The screw is recessed so that it screws into the body almost to the head. I think with the Dimarzio clip locks, you sill find that the screw actually sticks out further than with the Schallers.

How aggressive are you on stage?
