Double Bass String Bass Repair

I've got an old Juzek bass that was in pieces years ago. I had somebody near Hurley, NY put it back together again, and it's been beautiful. Well, one of our cats knocked it off it's stand today, and the neck broke off, as well as bridge, sound post, etc. We had someone in Hurley, NY (near Kingston) work on it before, does anybody know or remember his name?

My favourite bass stand, still, is a corner of the room that a bass can face into. And if you really, really look, most people have a corner of a room.

I would be knocking the scroll on the ceiling every time I wanted to play that bass.

Since I made the stand, I made it to accommodate the bass and the ceiling. It could have been shorter. And, it is a small bass, and we have 8’ ceilings.

But, you are right, one has to consider such things. I use that sort of stand when taking cellos or basses to shows, where accidents can easily occur in the shuffling throng.

Looks more like a boom-box to me.

I like the stand, it would definitely keep the bass stable and safe. Nice woodwork too. You’d need really high ceilings though to keep from bonking it all the time. Lifting a heavy bass out of there might also be bad on your bank.

Well… I guess I could have made it less deep.

The slot in the front (obviously) accommodates the tailpiece, but it also means you do not have to clear the sides with the endpin, when lifting the bass in or out.

The base is thick, for ballast against tipping, but has a 4” diameter hole in the center to accommodate the endpin.

In my home, and with that bass-design, it works well… But I can see it is not for everyone.

I meant bad on your "back" not bank (but also maybe "bank" if you damaged the bass). Autocorrect is a scourge. Oh, quick idea, how about a hinged door that folds down so you could bring the bass out the front at floor level?
