string choice 5'r jazz

It is strung with fairly coarse feeling rounds, nor sure of the brand, they have red silk ends if that tells us anything. The B seems to lack definition. The PU's are Baselines SJB-5 just looking for ideas for the "best" string choice?
Thanks

I happen to have a Hamer USA Cruise 5'er, and the best strings I've tried on it so far are Elixirs. Just the right blend of clarity with warmth, a bit of growl with no finger noise, and good feel/tension on the low B. I use the tapered 130 low B.

I'm a big fan of the D'Addario XL nickel rounds...I can make them sound anywhere from bright and zingy (without being too brash) all the way down to thick and creamy (without sounding too muddy)...

I use XL-170's on my 4 string P-bass and XL-170-5 on my 5-string active Jazz and they work well on both...
