Aloha, I acquired a bass with these flatwounds. Not my favorite but not the worst either. The more I play them the less stiff they seem, but I still may ultimately replace. Thanks!

You're looking at Rotosound 77 flats im pretty sure. I know mich more about rounds but im pretty sure i got it right. The ball ends are just like the roto swing bass strings.

AFAIK, Rotosound's colour-coding (est. ca 2016) goes red-blue-white-red. Also, long-scale Roto Jazz Bass 77 flatwounds still have their traditionally red silks at the headstock, and the A and E strings are noticeably rougher than the other two.

Since last year or so, La Bella have come with red-white-blue-gold ball-ends, in lieu of all gold/brass. So I believe these are La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass Flat 760FS (45-105).

In your picture, the ball-ends themselves look a little rough for being one-year old, though. Do you think the bass has been significantly...exposed to the elements?

Yes, those are La Bella, not Rotosound, although they're similar. And black silk means 760FS (45-65-85-105).

Hmm, I guess they do look a bit worn but the bass really isn’t. I got it on long term loan from a friend who moved away. It’s a 2021 bass he bought to record his album, then it’s been hanging on his wall in his studio until he handed it to me.

Thanks for the clarification Michael and haphazard. The ball ends were throwing me off as were the silks. I forgot about labella black silks. I loved the hard rockin steels with that black silk.

Most people find Labella FS a bit stiff, though some like that. If you like the way they feel and sound, you might consider their FL, which are a bit softer but still offer some resistance. They sound almost identical. They’re my favorite flats, at least in long scale.

It's funny how both Rotosound and La Bella made the decision to salute their respective flags...which happen* to have the same colours - but at least the latter manufacturer, understandably, adopted a different pattern, putting white in the middle (as it should, I guess you'll say).

Yeah these sound very authoritative but I’m not nuts about the feel. Although, unlike other flats with similar tension, these don’t feel as stiff or sticky and I can play relatively fast on them. I do love LaBella FLs and LTFs.

Goes to show where my brain is, I couldn’t figure out what these were even though I have a set of FS on my only bass that I still own from the fire here, and I couldn’t make that connection somehow. All I had to do was get them both out and look! Although my other bass is 30” and I do very much enjoy that set on that bass. On the 34” they’re really just about as tight a string as I’d tolerate.
