String Lenght of B String

Is Ok or not Ok if the thicker thread of the B string wraps around the tuning peg? I purchased a 6 string set of DR Pure Blues and the thick part of the string wraps around the tuning peg. Any suggestions, thank you. I'm using a Ibanez SR506.

A bassist friend of mine was once telling me he'd used DR Hi Beams on his 5-string Yamaha with no issues.

I personally would be leery about the fat part of the B string wrapping around the post.

You will find all kinds of opinions on this topic. I tend to avoid wrapping the fat part around a tuning post, but with the move to strings with longer wound sections (string makers want to make one set of strings for 34 and 35 inch instruments), it's become tough to do this with Fender style headstocks on 34 inch instruments - the E or B tuner with a Fender style headstock is too close to the nut to avoid wrapping the fat part of the lowest string with many string sets. Luckily, in my move to 5's, I've ended up with different headstock geometry (Warmoth necks) that places the B tuner further out, so it's not really an issue with my basses.

I'd prefer the thinner part of the B string around the post, but as others have pointed out, certain strings on certain basses, you get the full diameter. At least if that's the case, be SURE it looks like the picture Michael posted above, you NEVER want any of the other strings on top of each other on the post.

Always THIS:

. . . and NEVER this:

That happens to be the issue is that the DR's are 38" in length. I guess I'm trying to get opinions on other strings that will fit that are comparable to the DR's. Research tells me I need a long scale set with a length of 37" to 37.5"

Well as long as they aren't the long necks they ought to work ok. The only other string that's going to be very similar to pure blues would be Fodera nickels. They are round core and everything like pure blues and the stainless steels are really good. I'm using them on a Warwick right now. I have used hibeams on the same bass and they were ok. I have an Ibanez too and I feel like the length is very close to the same for both so I think you'll be ok with DR. If by some chance you break the outer winding try Fodera nickels or maybe Dean Markley nickel steels. I know those fit really well. Also refer to the string length by manufacturer thread on here and it should be a good help for you.
