String Recommendations for bass with Swamp Ash Body/Maple Neck

I personally like dr hi beams. They have a great sound on all my basses and one of them has an ash body with a maple neck too. It all comes down to personal taste though. I'm actually considering trying some different strings on a few of my basses soon. Elixer strings get a good tone and many people on here like flat wound strings. Just try a different set each time you need new strings till you find the ones that help get you YOUR tone. Hope this helps.

Ash and maple may have fewer mids and a good deal of highes. Of course there are other variables that can change that. My experience with ash / maple is a string with good mids. TI Superalloys have a low mid thing and pleasant highes that would be my first pick. TI flats would also be a consideration. If you want to slap away with a bright modern sound, the Hi Beams would be an option. But a steel string with more mids like Hard Rockin' Steels, Ken Smith Steels, or Fat Beams might be good as well.

My MTD has a swamp ash body with maple neck and I'm currently using Dean Markley S-2000's. I love the tone and feel but don't like the short string life so I'm thinking about trying a set of DR Hi Beams. I currently have them on my Warwick (swamp ash/wenge) and like the tone and longevity.

I second the TI SA's for the ash/maple combo. The low mid thing goin' on is perfect. I think if you have versatility in your bass' electronics config, then the SA's really help to accentuate it..... My L2K can go from thumpy to slaptastic to everywhere in between, and I attribute that to the wood combo, electronics config, and the TI SA's. I don't get that kind of versatility using SS rounds with this bass, and find myself fighting with them.

You know I have had the same experience with my Dean Markley Sr 2000. I like the feel and their sound, but they have died on me quicker than any strings I have ever owned. I thought something was wrong with my bass, because, a typical set of strings last months, yet the Dean Markley's died in a few weeks.
