String Shopping GHS ROTO or DADARIO

So I have a bass that came with bass strings 45. 75. .95 .105. It is a flatround string, which I like because its easier to play my style of music. (TOOL APC..stuff like that).

Im looking for a string that will give me a little more ass, but still smooth to play.

What are your suggestions on guage, and string brand.

If you want smooth, as in texture, Roto is out. Lots of people complain about how rough the strings are. They're my favorite though and they're the only ones I'll recommend. Maybe try the Roto Nexus. Bit more expensive but they're coated similar to DR's Black Beauties and sound awesome.

I heard D'addarios are smooth, try D'addario XL Nickel. I'm a fan of Rotosound, but they are rougher like what Ozzman said. But the nickel plated Roto's, they may be less rought, but still will have a lot of balls...or ass. =)

I'll stand behind what Ozz and Naturals said about Rotos being a bit rough on the fingers... although the only Roto set I've ever played are the Roto 66 stainless steels. I'm a big fan of D'Addario XL nickel plated steels... great tone, and not so rough on the fingers. You mentioned that you dig flatwounds because it's easier to play your style of music. Are you looking to get another set of flats, or switch to rounds? If you're looking into another set of flats, I'd say Chromes, but that's just me.

I have Roto flats on a Sting bass and they don't seem all that rough to me.
I like the Fender flats on my VM TB better though. They are really smooth. They almost feel coated.

No I guess im looking for a good sounding flat. My guitarist told me he thought I needed more balls on my tone. I currently have D'addario XL, and I love them. I get a great TOOL tone from them, but I need to move into my own tone lol. TOOL with more BALLS..ya dig?
