TB'ers: I recently got a new set of D'addario Halfgrounds. Before I installed them they did feel sticky, and as I've heard mentioned 'round here, I decided to use some alcohol wipes on them before putting them on. Just as I was finishing I noticed, to my horror, that the wipes were not pure alcohol, but had some kind of perfume crap in them as well. Now my strings have this horrible stank that just will not go away... and, no, it's not a good funky stank neither... it's like someone tossed a fresh diaper into a flower patch. It assaults me when I play and contaminates my fingers, and now I'm worried if it's getting into the wood of the fretboard. I've tried wiping the strings off with water and towels, letting it dry, etc... but the stank persists. Can anything be done? I love the strings otherwise and want to keep them.
