String tension on ABGs

Deciding on strings for a custom build. Pros and cons ref standard tension vs low tension? Have you had issues with bridges or necks pulling off or cracking with standard tension strings - ever? Has anyone tried the La Bella low tension flexible flat wounds? Others, such as the TI low tensions?

An acoustic is an air pump. The strings make the top move, pumpimg air in and out of the body. You need the strings to be taut enogh to move the top. Low tension means they won't drive the top as much, reducing the acousyic output. If you want a real acoustic instrument you'll need some tension. If you are going for an avoustic shaped instrument that is really only electric it won't matter.

I would go with light gauge strings such as the TI Jazz Flats or GHS/D'Addario Tapes. I cannot believe high tensioned strings would be good for an acoustic top in the long run for those problems you mentioned, although I have never heard of that happening before.

I have 45-100 chromes on my acoustic. No problems at all except I had a little trouble with my E string fitting on the bridge. The string peg and some of the silk from the string sticks out a little. I don't know if I would go any higher.

Please let me refine a comment above: acoustic strings are a balancing act: there needs to be enough tension to drive the top efficiently for best tone and volume, but not so much tension that the top "chokes" the top and actually starts reducing vibration. Most traditional medium gauge sets fit that window.
