Double Bass String winding technique

The guitar folk go into the string installing ad nauseum, I was wondering if the string thing on a Kay etc. is standard, like through the hole and wind towards the cheek without "climbing" up. Or maybe one turn away and then the rest toward the cheek making sure of straight lining, no "climbing" or rubbing. What's the drill and how about a decent picture?

I've always adhered to the 2-3 windings to the far side, cross over and come toward the cheek, making sure that the string does not touch the cheek and is reasonably aligned with the notch in the nut. Hope this pic helps (easiest to see on the G).

Alright, thanks. I think I've got a grip on it now so one doesn't end up with a pile of winds over by the "cheek".

Also depends on the strings a bit. If I have Spiros on there I just wind them on any old way. If I am using guts or Doms or something I am more careful.

That's pretty much how I do it. I don't like to see any more than about four winds on the capstan and definitely no touching the cheeks of the peg-box.
