Stringing up so the keys lay flat...???

You could simply use a headless tuning bridge. With normal tuners on the headstock as well.

Tune your strings to approximately the right pitch, align your headstock tuners, then use your bridge tuners to tune everything correctly. Continuing to use the bridge tuners will also ensure that your headstock remains pristine and aligned.

Possible on a fretless perhaps. Tune it so thier all flat then learn where all the right notes are on the finger board!!

Did mine once by accident. alternate flat, vertical, flat, vertical. Looked rather cool actualy. But I didnt dwell on it to long. I had a life to live :-P

OR...........

You could put round nobs on instead and symetry is restored for all eternity!!!!

"Yamaha had a guitar(s) with cylindrical tuners, which were naturally completely turn-symmetrical." DAMN and I just thought I'd thought of it first. Grrrrrr oh well back to the drawing board :-S

:mad:Yeah, yeah, OK, I get the point. It's just that my tuning keys was the last remaining part of our observable universe that didn't line up with my preconceived ideas of how things should be. Hell, after I whipped our local weather into shape last month, I thought I had it all together...until I realized my tuning pegs were arranged randomly...

Oh yeah, and for the buttmunch who says OCD should be CDO...that's ridiculous...it's ODC dummy! I'm into reverse alphabetizing...

now thats OCD! Do you have all of the other aspects of bass playing mastered?

Not sure its worth it (but it might be if you're really OCD about it)- tune up your bass. Stretch strings so they wont have to be tweaked with minor tuning adjustments. Jam a nail into each of the tuning key gears. Pull out the tuning keys and replace in desired matching positions. Squeeze the tuner housing back together, and rip the nails out of the gears. Then stand back and marvel at your glorious work which will last until you need to make the next minor tuning adjustment. :ninja:
