Strings dead after 1 Show

I recently bought a Spector Performer 4 used and before playing the first show I changed the strings. I normally use D'Addario XL's Medium round wounds. Have had other Spectors and couple of Precisions and always used the same strings. For some reason after 1 show on this Bass the strings are deader than dead...sound terrible. Other than a bit of sweat that they endured on stage...what else could have made them die after only 3 hours of playing?? Bad set maybe? :hmm:

Hey man, I used to have the same problem. We were a very high energy band and did a lot of "guitar tricks" and what not. I always learned that the best way to keep your strings alive (for me), is a combo of liquid hand chalk (hands don't sweat and does not get on bass), wrist band (sweat doesn't roll down arm) and apply fast fret right after playing (cleans deadening agents like sweat and dirt off strings). I don't know, it certainly worked for me and it is better than shelling out 20 bones before every show.

Odds are that your idea of dead dead dead is a good number of other people's idea of 'just getting broken in'.

+1. A lot of bassists change strings for every gig. It's pretty common, and nothing to be ashamed of if that's the sound you're after.

Then there are bassists who leave the same set of strings on for years and years and years.

Most of us are somewhere in the middle...

I played in a Christian pop funk thing for a while and right before a show I went out and bought a set of blue steels when the were brand new on the market, Hey they had been frozen they had to be good, right? One damn show and they were deader than a hammer one show about 10 song, now I play hard but jeez these things were 50$ at the time. now when the dean markley Bass blasters were out! 2 sets for 25$ and they were great strings. anymore though it's DR they seem to feel better for me
