Strings for a 5-string MM?

Starting on slap playing, using a 5-string Ray5 - Nordstrand pup, using it passive, series.
Currently with Roto66 but finding them somewhat harsh and not percussive enough (need to work on my technique as well...)

What works better for slap - less tension, more tension?
Any particular brand or model of strings?

If I were a slapper (which I'm not), I would try DR Hi Beams. I'm not sure about them being "percussive", but they have a nice bouncy feel (due to round-core flexibility) and a snappy top end. A much smoother surface feel than the Roto SB66 as well.

I remember seeing a video with someone slapping on a Ray with Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats, and I thought they sounded pretty good.

Dunlop Super Bright SS or the Marcus Miller set!! Good price
and both have good B strings!!

I second the Ernie Ball Cobalt flats for any style.... slapping, picking or fingered. I have the Cobalt flats on my Sterling Ray5 HH with great results.

I slap, I liKE DR. LO RIDERS SS. I like the tighter tension for slay harmonics and just overall

Most any round wound strings will work well enough, but lately, I’m using the D’Addario NYXLs on all my basses. The SR5 I had, but had to give back (to a good buddy) sounded great with the slap style, as do my other basses.
The thing with the NYXLs is that they also seem to last a good bit longer than other strings I’ve used. The tone is kinda between nickels and stainless strings, bright, but with a warm character that I really like. I’m

Im a slapped and finger style player

DR HiBeams. Great for bright slap/pop style. Or Dunlop Super Brights. For my money those 2 sound and feel pretty similar.

edit that I got a set of Rangers from Stringjoy to try on one of my MM because I’m curious. I love their guitar strangs and I’m never afraid to try something different. Next time I change they’ll go on.

My favourites already mentioned on a SBMM 25 are DR LoRiders and Marcus Miller Dunlop Super Brights. I'll also recommend DR Fat Beams.

I’ve got DR fatbeams 45-125 on my stingray 5. Partially cause that’s what it came with but I really enjoy them and would probably use them on other basses…if I had any
