Strings for a Gibson semi-hollow

So my 68 Gibson is all done up and needs strings. And I am only familiar with what a Fender J Bass sounds like.

I originally bought it on a whim thinking I would string it with Thomastik short scale jazz flats to get a dead/thumpy low and mid rich tone suited for reggae, laid back grooves and not-so busy finger funk... Am I on the right track? I loved the TI long scale on Fender but am not sure how it will work with a semi hollow bass/short scale... I don't dig in a lot and play light handed.

Should I go ahead and order? TI is not available in my country (yes, country!) So extra caution is necessary plus my fear is that if short scale flats don't work I can't even use them on my other bass guitars and almost no chance of a used item sale happening in these parts.

Your thoughts? Any advice or experience of other semi hollow bass players regarding flats and what sound/genre they work well for would be welcome...

They will sound even thumpier on a shorter scale (I would think) - at least, that's my experience comparing the same strings on different scale lengths, I imagine it's true for TI jazz flats as well. If that's the sound you're after, it should work. I'm generally more of a rounds guy though, but flats should work the same way regarding scale length. TI are not the cheapest strings, there may be less expensive / easier to get alternatives that would do the job as well. I would shoot an email to Jason at bassstringsonline, he's always been helpful.
