Strings for E-F tuning (6 string)

To not make the guitar sized ball end of the string go through the string hole in the bridge I just threaded it through the cut off ball end of an old bass string.

......i begin to use guitar strings on my two headless basses for piccolo tunings.

both basses are headless ! ...... my 34" needs to see at least 96cm in lenght.
The other one is a short-/multi- scale, 30-32".
the guitar strings from Pyramid are 100cm in lenght. So this should work out fine for me.
( i just have my first sets of GT strings on its way / the small ball end beeing the only "problem" vs. headless)

i´m in switzerland.
here, (odering from germany), is Pyramid the only string source that i can get single strings in any gauge.
From Thomann, or directly from Pyramid.
they sound good to me. ( stainless steel) Price is good.

the advantage of GT strings is the smaller gauge pattern. And then the price ofcourse !!

If it's a 3+3 headstock at least D'Addario guitar strings are perfect length for the tuner heads closest to the nut on a 34" 6 string bass, probably even for the 4 closest to the nut tuner heads, unless it got an unusual bridge or is string through body.

do you know if a daddario wound .020, .022 or .024 guitar string will work for the high F? Or a .030 wound for the C string for that matter assuming it reaches?

They take some extra care when stringing up (as they're so light), but fragile? No.

My poor choice of words. Wound .020 / .022 at F3 on 34" is entirely practical, but due to the thin core wire is fairly close to break tension, so is not particularly suitable if you want to bend them a lot.

I know as much as the gauge .024 string from D'Addario's EXL156 Bass VI string set worked perfectly as the high E string for my Ibanez SR306EB 34" scale 6 string bass tuned in D standard tuning.

FYI, i just checked a .028w (daddario) and .021p (ghs) standard guitar string and they are both easily long enough for a 34" bass C and F string at least on my basses.

a guitar .021p string worked just fine for a high E (I tuned it E to E). All I had to do was thread it through a bass ball-end first. The plain string plays fine and the tension seems ok. Only had 20 minutes to play it though. I'll report back with more feedback tomorrow...
