Strings For Funk

...so...everyone's talking brands, but what about guage? That's what I'd like to figure out. I swear that some of the best funk/slap players I've heard get a heckofalot of string rattle on the neck like it's really close and loose. What are y'all's thoughts on the ultimate guage to use for slap?

lite guage like the Rotosound funkmasters work pretty good and they sound better than the Labelle slappers I have on now.
A close tie for me between the Funkmaster and DR Lowriders.
Oh stay away from coated strings like Elixers and Dr's colored strings "not good for slappin on".

for slappin' I think you shouldn't go too heavy in gauge, the extra tension tends to kill the "pu-wang" of the pop...

.95 or .100 for the E string, max...

I tryed high beams on my sterling, i didnt like them too much to be honest, I prefered GHS boomers.....

I agree about the Elixirs, but disagree about the DR extra life strings - I think they sound fantastic slapped. Not a very bright slap sound, but very good IMO.

they are awesome but the only thing that put me off is that they die fast

Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies sound great for slapping.

Im really digging theese. My favorite bass at the moment, is my souped up Peavey TL-6. Theese strings work well for funk

For slap, I doubt you can beat DR high beams.

They have fairly low tension (which I personally prefer for stuff like double thumping and double/triple pops and are nice and bright without sounding too scooped.

The greatest thing I noticed when I first tried a set is how your thumb seems to just effortlessly bounce off the strings.
