Strings for Hip-Hop

Presuming Flats? Which ones? All fingerstyle with some occassional funk. Not really into the slapping but I need something fat and thick. Tried Fender flats and Chromes (ehhh....ok i guess). I like the tone of Jamerson(Labella) and Roger Waters(Rotosounds) bc Im using a 1963 Fender P-bass. Let me know what you suggest.......

I read in a ton of articles as well as TB threads that a P-bass with flats is the only way to go... and then I read a huge about of info praising Hub from The Roots, who uses EMG J-pickups and AFAIK roundwounds.

I played in a hip-hop project using a neck-through six-string, active electronics, and steel strings. "It's in yours and the Engineer's hands" was never so true that session... :smug:
