Strings for Hofner Bass (not violin/club)

Hi!
A friend of mine has this Hofner Bass and he'd like to put some tapewounds on it but he's not certain about the right lenght, if he should get a set of short scale or medium scale.
There's a lot of info about violin or club basses but we can't find much things about this model.
Can anyone help by recomending the right lenght of strings?

The best thing to do is to measure the actual distance on the bass from where the ball end is anchored to where the string clears the nut. That would be the minimum "winding length" needed. Once you have that info, we'll be able to tell you what to get.

Let us all repeat the mantra:

1) measure from the ball anchor to the tuner side of the nut;
2) measure from the ball anchor to the middle of the lowest string tuner post (in this case, the E string)
3) purchase a set of strings that the winding/speaking length of the strings is between these two measurements.
Most manufacturers are now publishing their speaking/winding length of their various strings.

Now, the OP did not report the scale length of the strings in order to help determine all of this. That helps with determining required tension, but not the length of strings. Note that since this bass has a separate tailpiece and bridge that, like the 500/1, longer strings may be required than simply a conventional short scale set.
