Strings for Ibanez Mikro

Put new gears, pickups (Di Marzio) and strings (Sunbeams) on my new Mikro. Happy with everything but the strings which feel great but are a bit too bright for my taste.
Any thoughts about round wounds with a more traditional sound?

PS the P pickup was bigger (NOT smaller, as expected) than the opening. Minor routing required

Play them for a week. They will mellow out. Not a lot of great options for the Mikro, so you may as well just break-in what works.

I would agree. After playing a few weeks they will settle in and get better. That is a gorgeous bass. I'd bet that it sounds great with the new pups. Enjoy!

I had some LaBella std white nylons on another bass. I cut them and put them on my Mikro and they’ve been on over a year, no problems

Could you tell us what specific types of DiMarzio pickups you used to replace the stock pickups? I've had a Mikro for about three months now and I can't get a good sound of it. Very trebly, quacky, no matter how I adjust the controls on the bass and whatever amp I'm using. Did you replace all three pickups?

I've seen not a big difference in price between D'Addario's SS Nickel 220 and original mikro Ibanez strings. Which one I choose? The EXL extra Light Short scale are too Tiny for the Mikro or slim strings can fit on It withouth loosing bottom ends?

If you're fine with Nickel-wound:

The Mikro strings you can buy are coated.

BTW, DR short-scale strings do NOT fit:

In addition to the recommendation by Killed by Death, which is a good recommendation, another set also less bright and fit a MiKro: GHS Pure Balanced Nickels in short scale. As the name suggests, very balanced, even, less bright than most of the nickel plated steel offerings, including especially Sunbeams. Even with the 28.5 scale, Ibby has taken a lesson from Rickenbacker in offsetting the E-string tuner farther away from the nut than the G string, so conventional 32" to 32 3/4" short scale strings will fit. I have a friend with a Mikro who likes their depth, evenness, and tamed top end.

Having played the DiMarzio P and J pickups at various times over the last 45 years, when they were new pickups, either set of strings should do nicely. He does have a great point that DR's "short scale" are rather long for the MiKro.

Finally got around to installing Ernie Ball strings recommended by Killed by Death (thanks!). Huge difference!
