Currently have GHS Boomers on my Stingray Special and getting a weird overtone on different notes. Confirmed it's not a technique issue since it's not happening on any other basses playing the same notes/frets. It's almost like a ghost note or when you pull off the string and get that note but it's not quite as pronounced and more of an electronic afternote or something ... it's really hard to describe. I already lowered the pickup a little to see if that would help but not really.

Not entirely sure it's a string issue but it's a fairly cheap troubleshooting step and swapping strings is fun. I'm a big DR strings fan and normally use Low Riders or Hi-Beams on most of my basses but if someone with a Stingray Special has a favorite set of strings they use and really enjoy, post them up here.

Thanks in advance!

The cleanest tone I’ve gotten from a Stingray Special is to lower the pickup just a tad lower than the various specs and make up any gain loss at the amp or the bass input channel. And add a touch of treble to get that Stingray bite as I like it.

I use D’Addario NYXLs.

.
That can happen if the pickup is too close to the strings affecting their vibration.
