Strings Pedulla players use?

What strings do Pedulla players use? - me - Im still on trial, currently enjoying DR Low Riders on my Thunderbass T5.

I use Rotosound Jazz 77's (flatwounds) - used to have DR Black Beauties, but just don't like the feel and twang of rounds anymore.

Interesting idea, i seem to shy away from flats as they offer the more traditional thump sound - the thunderbass is made for hi-fi modern tones so the two combined may be at cross purposes, having said that i might try the rotos at some stage, thanks for your advice.

Depends on what kind of Pedulla. I have a Rapture Jazz 5 (sounds like a great jazz bass) and it came to life with some DR Fatbeams. Made a huge difference. It'

On my Thunderbolt 5 I've been loving the nickel wound Pedulla brand strings, before that I used DR high beams. Since trying Pedulla strings, I'm done with DR.

I used pedulla strings first up on my thunderbass and liked them although i didnt know if the taper core allowed good sound transmission through to the bridge (who makes pedulla strings?), the fat beams might be the one to try if they livened up your rapture, although i dont know the difference between the fat beams and the hi-beams - im planning to buy my strings on Wednesday so i have 2 more days to decide which string to go for thanks for the input.

Believe it or not I actually use Pedulla brand strings on my ET5 and Buzz.

They really are a nice string.

Granted, I did use 2 different mic pre's, but I think you can tell the difference in tone.

"6 AM" Rapture with standard nickel D'Addario. Used a Telefunken mic pre. Nice and fat and all...

But listen to "Natural Chemical"...and you'll hear the difference with the DRs. I tracked through a UA 610, I think. This particular track featured the great session drummer Nate Morton from the "Rockstar INXS" house band, as well as playing with Paul Stanley and a crapload of other artists.

None of the tracks were edited, so obviously there's some rough spots and stuff like that, since well, they are unmixed roughs.

On my MVP6 I've tried Pedulla Steels, Dean Markley Alchemy, Dean Markley SR2000's, DR Lo Riders, D'Addario XL's and Warwick Black Labels. Honestly it sounds good with any of them. I really liked the feel of the Alchemy strings the best and, of course, they are the most expensive. On my Hexabuzz I'm really digging the Pedulla Nickels. They are very even and warm sounding. I think I'll try a set of DR Sunbeams next on that bass.

Pedulla steels are the runaway winner on pedulla basses IME.

i just got some sadowsky flats for my thunderbolt but haven't put them on yet.

I used Pedulla strings on the Thunderbolt I owned. I think boomers sounded the closest to any other string I tried, but I always went back to Pedulla strings.

I use TI Jazz Flats on my Series II. Back when I used round wounds, I was a big fan of R. Cocco (are they the same as the Pedulla strings? not sure.) or Ken Smith Slap Masters.

I used Pedulla Steels on non-Pedulla basses for a few years, and it seems that they're nice and bright to counteract some of the "darkness" that you get from the standard Bart pickups.

Any Pedulla bass/string owners care to weigh in on the idea?

I bought a set of fat beams so i'll try those over the weekend and let you know what i think, in the meantime i will email pedulla to find their authorised dealer here in New Zealand and buy a set each of nickel and SS pedulla strings to try as well, let you know what i think of those as well as soon as the fat beams deflate - thanks alot for your recommendations (I have a '96 Thunderbass T5 - peacock blue by the way - love it!).

i normally use daddario nickle XL's on my thunderbuzz
6 string (it has a natural tung oil finish on the fretless
neck, not the epoxy-ish coating like some pedullas), but
i do find the high C string gets a little twangy for my taste...

normally i stay away from flats, as i like a bright sound, but
i'm thinking of maybe trying a set...

anyone have any good suggestions? (flats or not)

Generally, I use the Pedulla 0.045 - 0.128 five string steel set on my Rapture 5. They are a very nicely balanced set, IMO. A few years ago I put some D'addario Slowounds on it and it went back to the factory for warranty work shortly thereafter. Before sending it back, Michael changed the stings back to stock Pedulla steels - he said his bass just didn't sound right with the D'addarios....
