Strings seem to be pickup selective

  1. I previously tried Elixer Nanowebs on an MM Sterling and they sounded decent enough. Put them on my Jazz and they sounded dull and lifeless. Tried them again tonight on my Jazz with Noiseless pickups and they sound really smooth and cut down on some growl when you turn the tone down some and use Fingerstyle. When S-1 is depressed it sounds a little more realistic of a P bass sound using finger style lightly. You can get J bass growl out of it if you want it, especially with a pick. Have to play them a while but so far they are nice sounding and more what I wanted out of a string. The Elxers seem to like hotter pickups for sure. The stuff I play (Old school) sounds good with these strings and pickups.
By the way, after hearing an MIA P bass the other night, I have to agree...the J bass with S-1 does not sound like just like one...but it will get close enough with the right strings, touch, and EQ.
