Double Bass Strings

I have recently purchased a new bass. A decision I didn't think would be so hard to make came up: strings. I realized I know little about the strings that are out there. I'll be using this bass for auditions for high school music festivals, other evaluations and soon enough; college auditions. I will also be playing in various orchestra groups. Is there a string that will serve me well in both of these types of playing? I use Obligato strings now which I have come to understand are great for Jazz in addition to Solo and orchestra playing. As good as these are, is there another string anyone would recommend? Thanks.

If you like the Obligato's just keep them. They are nice to bow and nice for pizz. Only problem is the E string, after some time there is less life in it (pizz, arco is still okay).
An another option is Evah. I like the Evah Weich both for arco and pizz. But it is a more darker string. Obligato is more bright.
But again, if Obligato is okay for you just keep them and enjoy them.

Agreed, if it ain't broke don't break it. String Madness is an expensive disease.

That said, when the Oblis eventually give up the ghost you may wish to pick up a used set of Spirocore Weichs in the classifieds. In my opinion they're the best all-around strings and a set can last you for a decade or more.
