Struggling to find Chorus bliss

Might be over kill, but I just picked up a Boss VF-1 half rack fx processor. I'm having great luck with the programs for chorus. very clean and easy to use. it has the programs for chorus and reverb. Old Ce chorus parameters and RSS chorus. really is nice in the fx loop of my Aguilar 659. I also did a straight in front end and still sounded great. Just FYI. I was struggling with choruses as well. My favorite is still the ol' boss brown pedal ce-2b

My two favorite choruses I have tried are my Bass Whammy and an EHX Stereo Electric Mistress. I know the Whammy is not a "chorus" but the detune settings sound great to me for chorus tones.

The new MF Chorus could be a winner too. I would love to try one.

That being said I am not a huge fan of chorus so I tend to like the barely there effect.

Yes, yes, yes! The shallow detune on the Whammy is what I use. Best chorus sound I've heard for bass, and allowed me to kick my MXR M83 of my board for the space, although that is a great chorus as well that function as a flanger, but the deep detune setting on the Whammy does that, too.

I use the emulation on my M5 for the Dimension, 'cause I haven't found the Roland rack or Boss pedal to buy yet.

Like Jman, I also use my Brown Boss CE-2B a lot.

I recently picked up a Cool Cat Chorus and that has its own sweet sound.

My Echo Puss has modulation, with a super short delay, loads of fun.

Almost shocked it hasn't been mentioned. THE Chorus pedal is the Carl Martin Bass Chorus. His pedals are beyond phenomenal.

I sold mine. It was too subtle.

I recommend the MXR Analog Chorus. It's blendable between wet and dry, and you can control/cut the high frequencies separately from the lows, helping you maintain the bottom and mids in your tone. All at a great price.

I have the Zak Wylder-version and I like it because it is very tweak able.

The DC-2 sounded nice when playing alone, engaging it with the band, was like turning of my bass. This thing eats lows!!

I'm not qualified to review it. Perhaps it was taken from the site because the current version of the Cosmichorus might be at the end of its life-cycle and the Doctor may rebuild it.

He has the technology. He has the talent. He has the capability to make the world's best bionic chorus, man. Cosmichorus will be that chorus, man. Better than it was before. Much better... more shimmery... deeper liquidity.

I own a danelectro cool cat cc-1 chorus pedal and it is an awesome chorus pedal for the price. I've noticed that some online stores no longer carry them. they should continue selling them. even though the fab chorus is still available. anywho, this pedal can provide smooth lush sounds at an affordable price. if you're able to find one, I would say go for one. other than that, the mxr analog chorus and the black label chorus would be good choices for a new chorus pedal. I would purchase the black label chorus if I ever needed a new chorus pedal for any reason. Also I would purchase one because I am a fan of black label society.

Chorus is tricky- it's not complicated, but each one has it's own flavor, and some of them are hissy. No lie, I've owned over 20 different chorus pedals over the years, and only a small handful are what I'd call awesome. One of those is the TRex Sweeper bass chorus, and it's stereo, if you want to run two rigs with a luscious chorus. Another I like a lot is the Maxon CS9Pro, but it's a bit pricey. Another is the TCElectronics Corona. Another, the original 18VDC Danalectro Cool Cat. On the less desirable side of them is the Ehx Clone Theory, my least fav overall, and the most noisy. Boss makes several models, the bass version is not great, but the CE-5 is not bad at all. Ultimately, you'll have many choices, and with luck, you'll find something that works for you before you've bought and sold as many as I have.

I've tried a few and the one I went back to is the MXR Stereo Chorus. Thick, warm and tweakable, with plenty of low-end options. I have mine on settings that fatten the sounds more than choruses (zezezzz) it. If you can live with a larger footprint and the 18v requirement, it's definitely an option.

A blend could work but the effect of the DC-2 is rather subtle so it could get lost in the mix. Another alternative would be the Boss DC-3, its digital, it sounds like the DC-2 and it doesn't eat lows. I should never have sold mine.

I've been very happy with my TC Electronics Corona for a long time but the sound samples and demos of the Providence Anadime ABC-1 analog chorus are just killing me. That thing sounds awesome.
I too have owned dozens of different chorus pedals in all price ranges. On the moderate priced end, it's hard to go wrong with the Corona. If I can scrape up a few extra bucks, I'm going to try the ABC-1 as soon as possible! I hope it lives up to the sound clips!

I have had many, many choruses (Chorusi?) over the years - Boss/DOD/TC/etc and currently have an AnalogueMan bi-chorus... but they never make me happy. Either too much effect, too little effect, too big/small/deep - just not right.

I want a nice, transparent effect that would add that nice "shimmer" that a good chorus does without making the mids go crazy, sapping the bass, warping the tone...


My buddy NoStatic is recommending the Jam pedals "Waterfall" (nice and spendy, of course) - I heard it once on his board and it sounded nice - but I played it for all of 2 minutes.

Any other suggestions?

I have a tc electronic bass head with TonePrint. I've tried two downloadable chorus effects.
The Nathan East MagiChorus was too big, IMO. Maybe I need an active pickup bass.
The classic Chorus was okay. It seemed to be middle-of-the-road.
Any particular pro bassist's chorus you want to emulate?

I use the simple MXR Micro chorus - the small, yellow one. It has a little bit of hiss, but a certain "density" that digital-based choruses don't have, if that makes sense. I bought it for $60 off of Tonefactor.com; they had a sale coupon available on Facebook a while back.







I also have a TC amp with the Toneprint feature, but frankly, I haven't found a chorus setting that I like, and I literally spent two hours (I know, I know...) going through ALL of them.

Dying to try the Tech 21, but money's tight. Bought the Boss bass chorus - twice - and tried to like it but couldn't. Sold them each time.

So, the Anadime bad chorus was a no-go. Nice tone and effect but way too noisy in two of the three switch positions so back it went. For a pedal that expensive, I was expecting much better.
Next up is the Keeley Sea Foam chorus. Nothing at any price range has knocked my Corona off my board yet.

Hey I quite like that little guy. Man, MXR is always pretty solid. It sounded so different in all three videos though, hm. I'm currently wondering if my MXR flanger is too subtle, might have to have a little shootout with myself against that micro chorus.

I used to use a Phase 90 a lot since I like to use modulation to give a little subtle movement to otherwise flat lines, phaser or univibe mostly, but I've always liked chorus, and this flanger surprised me, was recommended by the bass guy at my local shop.
