stuck in a rut

G mixolydian would be in C, F would be lydian

you are right about the f mixolydian, but i agree with gruff puppy that you should learn chords too. in fact in jamming, chords are more important. chords originate and are easier earned by learning scales, but chords are the most important in terms of jamming. id say that scale theory is more for full compositions. but dont skip over tem, they are still really important.

i talked to my music teacher at school and he is a big jazz man, so i got some hands on lessons, he gave me some worksheets and stuff so i think i got it now, quick quiz, D dorian is in the key of C, E phygarian is in the key of C, F lydian is in the key of C, G mixolydian is in the key of C, A aeolian is in the key of C and B locorian is in the key of C. All of these can be moved to differant keys, the shapes of the modal scales stay the same and you play the begining on thier respective scale degree. is that clear, i think i may have finally got it. thanks for all your help

i would have to agree, but the most important thing you must learn nate is that when you go into heavily populated music stores grab yourself a bass that cost about two grand, a real big amp, forget all you have learned, and slap the hell out of bass until everyone is watching you.

oh yea one more thing, try playing some amazing grooves before getting wrapped up in a insane two octave scale. if you have ever heard a band like the Meters you can relize that some people can groove hard with two notes and never worry about modes
