Studio monitor isolation pads

Probably a silly question, but are all the pad things (such as MoPads) the same?

Just dont fancy dropping £40 on the MoPads when there are other options at about half the price, especially if the other avalible ones are the same.

I don't have experience with fancy pads, but I cut mine out of some black packing foam that some electronics came in.

They work great, all for the low low price of free.

i just used a couple old thicker mouse pads ..!! they soak the vibrations just fine ...

I had a handful of giveaway mouse pads from conferences. I have three under each monitor and they are great.

And like Aarix said "All for the low low price of free."

Yea alot of that stuff is snake oil. I will say some of it is designed to squeeze every tiny little bit of great sound out of a monitor. Your only as strong as your weakest link. If you have a set of $500 monitors then yes put them on something, but mouse pads would be fine. If you have a set of $5000 monitors then it wouldnt hurt to put them on something a little pricier just in case the claims are true. I have mine on a set of isolated monitor stands, but if they were on a desk they be on mouse pads.

Im going to go with some iso-mat style things just for the fact they will look a bit neater on the desk, not going to get the Aurlex ones tho, there was a guy over here who was selling pads for 2 speakers for ~£10 which i can live with

Just build them up to about 1-2 cm thickness and you're pretty well covered.

Mine are about 2 1/2 cm (almost an inch) thick. They are on stacks of three thick mouse pads. And I'm at least as happy as I would be with the expensive isolation stands.

But then I DON'T have $5000 monitors. Maybe there would actually be a difference then, but not at my level.

The one thing the gramma pads are nice for, which most people dont need is that they tilt the monitors down for you. This is obviously only nessecary if your monitors sit above your listening postion. Your better off with them ear level anyway that having to angle them down.
