Double Bass Stupid issue - endpin ball loosening

The point on my endpin is covered with one of those threaded rubber spheres. I recently replaced the old one which had gotten chewed up, and the new one seems to be very difficult to tighten sufficiently such that it does not loosen very readily. It is not really a problem other than that I am afraid some day I will not notice that it has loosened and it will fall off and I will lose it.

Anyone else have this issue? I was wondering about using something like a "Loctite" product.

Subbed. My spike protector tends to unthread over time and I wonder what others are doing.

My solution to this has simply been to check it every time I adjust my endpin. Once when packing up the bass for transport and another when unpacking. My concern with using a threadlocker or other adhesive is - what do I do in the event that I want to use the spike?

Loctite #242 is what you want to use - it can be "disassembled" with "hand tools", but should solve your issue.

To be clear - I have used Elmers and Teflon tape, but not at the same time. I think the dab of Elmers works better, and it, alone, is what I use now; I should have clarified. I don’t know why it would necessitate lock tight, from my experience. Mine is a titanium end pin and I have used it with the Ulsa Massiv stopper with stainless insert that came with the system (stainless pin came with it) and with the rubber ball with plastic inserts - works with both, and it’s safe on anything, as far as I know.

Don, I didn’t mean it was a bad suggestion - sorry if it came off that way; I can see how it would. I’m sure the right one would be just fine. I just tried grabbing from the kids’ craft closet instead of the shop, and the lesser glue has worked well for months.

To Whom....
I should have noted that "Loctite" comes in different flav...er, colors, which designate different holding strengths -
Blue is Medium hold (242)
Red is Permanent Hold (& they are not joking.)
Purple is Low Strength hold (222)

There ya' have it.
Thx.

Thanks all. I am aware that Loctite comes in different "flavors." Which is why I referred to a Loctite product.

What I find curious is that the original enpin ball came with my Upton bass and, IIRC, I bought a couple of replacements from Upton. The original never loosened this way. Pretty sure the threads are plastic. I don't think I have ever used the spike on that bass.
My solution to this has simply been to check it every time I adjust my endpin. Once when packing up the bass for transport and another when unpacking.
I had simply been tightening it frequently. The other day I noticed that it loosened considerably between bagging my bass after practice and buggying it a not long distance to the parking lot. I had not been rigorously tightening it every time I extended or retracted the endpin, but thought I had been doing so more often than not. That it loosened that much while the endpin was retracted made me think it more poosible that it would losen all the way, fall off, and be lost. Which got me thinking of Loctite or thread tape.
