Double Bass Stupid issue - endpin ball loosening

Since I started using the Wolf Super End-Pin Ball about 20 years ago I haven't used anything else. It works great on wooden end-pins too.

Because this is a basic mechanical problem that has nothing special to do with being a "luthier" or a woodworker, hence the tears and the PIA tax!

Loctite 222 is the move I think, if you need thread locker.

Gollihur has a nice one that stays on my bass with minimum fuss. I think the point of the pension bottoms out against the rubber ball and creates some tension

Screw-On Rubber Endpin Ball (10mm-1.5 threads)

This little endpin ball replaces the wimpy rubber cap that your endpin spike is poking through. Aside from being more durable, it also will help avoid having your endpin skid across smooth surfaces.

Loctite #242 is what you want to use - it can be "disassembled" with "hand tools", but should solve your issue.

I can never remember this when I need to. I was going to reply they were "Too Expen$ive" yesterday evening but my wiseassery was worn out. Glad somebody caught that.

I met this bass-player at a festival probably close to 30 years ago who happened to also be a machinist. He made aluminum footrest extensions with hard rubber inserts that secured with Allen set screws. All he needed was your endpin diameter. Dad and me both bought one. I still have mine.

If the inner thread in the ball is plastic, the thread might have been damaged by tightening it too much or by an impact on a not fully tightened thread. Try one of the new balls, keep the one that won’t fix well, you can still try loctite or Teflon band on it later, and find out how long it takes with the new ball until the thread gets damaged like you current ball thread. If you care for not over tightening and also for tightening enough the problem might not arise or at least much later.

Best solution to avoid that is getting a ball with a metal insert.

I use a Wolf Super Endpin (there is no thread at my endpin for a ball). The ball easily gets a hole in the bottom if used during transport on the streets, but not so much on stage.
After I could look through the bottom of the ball, I bought a second WSE because the balls alone are not available. I used the old metal part with one or two rubber rings to fill up the missing space and cheap Chinese bass endpin rubbers. (I have posted photos of it somewhere on Talkbass …)
That works almost as good as the Super Endpin Ball, but if I think I need it I can always change to the Super Endpin ball on stage. But that haven’t been the case yet.
