Who is the bass player who managed to get a bass solo during the Todd Rundgren tune Bang On The Drum All Day? A song about playing a drum gets a bass solo. If you ask me that had to be a very persuasive dude right there.

Ahhh...so a guy records a song about playing a drum and instead of the expected drum solo he puts in a bass solo. As a bass player I am proud of that. I wonder what my drummer thinks of it?
well Dave Grohl did play all the instruments on the first Foo Fighters album....Funny. Credits say Rundgren played all instruments. So he convinced himself.
I meant funny in that, based on playing all the instruments, he had to persuade/convince himself about the bass solo. Not funny that he played all the instruments.
It’s just a euphemistic phrase about wanting to do some self-indulgent activity instead of being bothered/bored by ‘working for the man’. That whole section is just a break down for contrast, a sort of bridge. It’s a drag that the tune is the only Todd song some people know of. It’s not the first time he’s played everything, there’s a lot of that on Something/Anything, from 1972, most famously this...Ahhh...so a guy records a song about playing a drum and instead of the expected drum solo he puts in a bass solo. Well, he is a musical auteur, recording albums of songs he wrote. In the early days, since he had been through the band experience with The Nazz, he decided to just bring in people when he needed them. He formed Utopia when he felt like getting out and playing live.
He makes his own opportunities to play out, he can just hire people. I’d bet that, while Utopia was a going concern, he just kept the other three on retainer.
