Sub-octaved Guitar instead of bass?

I recently joined a band that loves to experiment with unusual and unconventional musical techniques. We recently discussed using a guitar run through a sub octave pedal (with the original signal mixed out) instead of a bass guitar. This way, the bass could have more body in choruses and such by playing power chords instead of single notes. What are your thoughts on this? Cheers

Yeah go for it, see how you like it. Quite a few bass players choose to play an octave up and use an octave pedal, it's a good sound.
