Suggestions for a 2x10 to compliment my 1x15

Hey everyone! I have an Ampeg Svt classic 1x15 and I'm looking for a good 2x10 with an 8 ohm amp so I can run an extension into the 15. I was looking at the Hartke 5210c but I don't think they make it anymore and the one at my Sam Ash sold. I'm looking for a 2x10 and amp within the 500-650 price range because I'm selling my 410 (it's hard to transport) I've been using my SVT classic head which I'll probably sell too if this rig works out since its 4 ohms and my 15 is 8 ohms. Any suggestions on what to get? All help is appreciated!

I'll try to be civil here... I think it's unwise -- and even pretentious -- to dismiss tjh's advice out of hand, and specifically in that manner. He's trying to alert Muyy to (what should be) the obvious possible/probable pitfalls in his plan, and so his contribution has merit.

so you've been using the 4Ω 4x10 by itself?

what kind was it, and did you like the tone of it?

do you even like the tone of the 15 by itself? (you can play the SVT through it long enough to at least get a feel for the tone, it's not a big deal short-term.)

if not, then the best plan is to ditch it too, in favor (if you like the "10s" tone more) of maybe a matching pair of 2x10 cabs.

yes, you should get matching cabs, but they need to be cabs you like.

My 2 cents, get a pair of 210 8 Ohm cabs and use the SVT classic head. Easy load-in / load-out, nice tone, and they can be stacked vertically to improve dispersion.

No mismatching and no issues with beaming like you MAY get with a 15 and 210 combination.

thanks for the advice everyone! The 410 I was using is an Ampeg 410 SVT classic that I love. I also love the sound of just the 1x15. I was mainly looking for convenience and size. The 15 isnt humongous, but itd be tough to get two in my car thats why i was looking for just a small compliment to it. Im sure getting 2 210s would sound good too but I already have the 1x15. I also would like to be able to bring just the smaller 2x10 to practices when I dont need to be as loud. Another reason for my wanting a 210 is running an 8ohm amp into the 210 and 115 since my SVT classic head is 4 ohms and I wouldnt want to run it into 2 8 ohm 1x15's. Would mixing a 210 and a 115 really sound that bad?

thanks for the advice, sounds like thatd be nice. Any suggestions on 2x10 cabs? I prefer kind of the Hartke/Ampeg side of the amp sound spectrum. Are beaming and mismatching big issues when people use different brands of cabs?

I wouldn't risk it. I'm in the "don't mismatch" camp.

You like your 1x15... so get the exact same one.



Or mismatch if you really have your heart set on it. ;) If it feels good to you who am I to tell you not what to do.

Just this: all the wheels on my car are exactly the same size and I weekly check that the tire pressure is correct. So it drives better and safely. ;)

Maybe I just haven't had any coffee yet and am misunderstanding :) ...If your head is 4 ohms, then two 8ohm 115's is ideal. Two 8ohm cabs equals a 4ohm load. There are folks who mismatch and seem to feel it sounds good for them...maybe it does. There is the visual pitfall that happens a lot regarding speaker size.

The point is, if you like what you have, but just need 'more' then get more of what you already know you like, hence two 115's.

If you still want to try a 210 to go with your 115 (and I really think you should give it a shot and see what you think) I suggest you have alook at the SVT-210HE. It is a vented, 8 Ohm enclosure that is loaded with the same drivers found in the SVT-410HLF. Higher power handling and Xmax than most 10s.
It sounds thick and "big" for a 210 and it can take more power than most of the regular 210s. In fact, with a bit of boost in the lows and in the upper mids and powered by a powerful amp, this cab can match some low performance 410s.

I have never gigged the SVT-115HE but given the input here on TB, the 10s would provide the lows and the 15 the mids and "bite" in this setup...

Not a clue what you should get but I highly doubt any audience will notice the tone difference between 2 15"s and a 15" + 2 10"s. Half the people I meet can't tell the difference between my RBX270 panned all the way to the neck P with the bass cranked and the treble cut, tone all the way down, and played with fingers, and my 375 panned to the bridge with the bass cut and treble boosted on both bass and amp, played with a pick.

Also I found this on a thread at the moment.

it's not that "it can't be done," and it's just that results *can* be unpredictable.

While it may not be The Best Thing Ever, it's doable, and people get results *they* like with that setup, sometimes.

i use a acoustic 210 neo with my 115 eden cab. i think it sounds great, and is way way easier to haul around than my 215 boogie rr. the cool thing about the neo speakers is that they are light. i too like the option of just using the 210 or the 115 depending on the situation....and when i put then together imo i think it sounds great.
