Suggestions for a 5 string PJ bass

I say play whatever helps YOU be more comfortable on stage and perhaps play better.
I play 3 different basses in church (tho not on the same day) and one of them is a headless. Our pro sound engineer does not care which I play. He's also a bass player.

A lot of response to a simple problem.

Yes, just about any bass you throw through a FOH system is subject to the monkey running the board.

Sound of a bass is important. My trip down the pickup rabbit hole and resulting drawers full of them result speaks to this.

There is a world of instruments out there. Some will pick you up others will kill you. It really sounds like you just want something new.

That's fine. Wanting something new got me 15 basses.

So, I'm gonna suggest something different.

Check out G&L. And if you can find one. An M-2500. These are now in the "build to order" category at G&L and are tough to find in the wild. When I discovered the model, I had just picked up an L-2500. Great bass. Lots of tone and the humbuckers sound amazing.

I found 3 M-2500's on the internet. I just bought them all. Candy apple red one is my favorite. I found a butterscotch (I think) tribute. And my CAR and burst are USA.

There were a couple more out there. A white one, I think. Personally, I don't like white or green.

Here's a couple of shots sent to me by the seller after I ordered my CAR M-2500. Man, I love this bass.

Being a pragmatic contrarian I would suggest that you look into a synthesizer like the Novation bass station, Moog Messenger etc or a midi keyboard and software synths on an iPad or laptop. It would give you an almost unlimited amount of usable sounds that are used in modern praise music. Being able to play synth bass from the bass chair frees your keyboard player(s) up for other parts and you get to control all of the bass parts. Synth bass can be another arrow in your quiver and make you much more marketable.

Edited to add that if you’re sold on a PJ I would agree with the Yamaha BB series. I have a BB435 that weighs less than 9lbs and sounds great.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up getting a Yamaha BBP35 in Sunburst. I will be playing it at church this Sunday. So far I'm really liking the bass but with fresh strings on it the thing sounds too bright right now so I'm dialing down the bridge pickup by a good 70% and the tone nob as well.
