Double Bass Suggestions for transcription

+1 for Paul's mentioning Leroy Vinnegar.

Also check out Red Mitchell with the Hampton Hawes Trio... All Hamp sides are great, but I highly recommend checking out "All Night Sessions Vol. 1" (w/ Jim Hall added) to hear some really amazing music (this being Vol. 1 of 3, and all night sessions as in, they just went into the studio and did 3 albums, each tune a 1st take). Red plays beautiful, clear and simple lines all the time (and then there's his solos!). Just keep listening to as much as possible, get the sound in your head, and transcribe whatever really piques your interest.
