Suggestions on fretless bass strings

Consider a set of Dean Markley Fret Masters. They sound like Blue Steel but the string over the neck is burnished to minimize roughness. They have left no scratches on my graphite fretless neck. Your results may vary with Ebony.

BTW, I roll my finger rather than bending the strings when playing fretless.

On my fretless Jazz, I tried DR nickel flats (I like DR strings on my Lakie), but didn't like the sound. I tried TIJF, and didn't like them at all. Took em off after a couple weeks and they're sitting on the shelf. Someone gave me a set of Ernie Ball Slinkies and I love them on my MIJ fretless jazz. Maybe they'll groove the fingerboard over time, but I'll refinish the fingerboard if that happens. The sound is too good to take them off. And the EB strings are less than half the price of the other strings I tried.

Some are compression -wound, but from side-to-side like Dean Markley Helix and Fodera's.
These may mean less 'finger zing' depending on your callouses or finger print pattern because of the closer wraps,
but they're not 'flatter' on the fingerboard.
