Suhr Basses Are Coming Back To Rocket!

I hear ya! I just purchased a Roscoe SKB. The store had other Roscoes but they were all Fender clones. For those of us who want something non-traditional, the restricted choice can be frustrating.

That said, I'm sure the Suhr is a quality bass. I have a Suhr guitar that's amazing.

For the record... I do have a nice assortment of Invalid Link Removed. Sadly, many of those have been hanging here for quite a while. I'll know I need to order more of that stuff when I manage to sell one or two of those or take some new special orders.

As it is, I've got lots of customers who are enthusiastic about Fender style instruments. And Suhr has a super nice take on the classic Jazz bass design. And it's well under $3K. For those reasons, I'm excited to be carrying Suhr basses again.

And speaking even more about Suhr basses... well, maybe just Suhr in general.

Check out this Suhr Classic that arrived today. Aesthetically, it looks fairly similar to how Josh's bass will look. But this guitar is actually pretty dressed up in a few subtle ways. True Mother of Pearl was inlaid on the face and side of the neck as well as the headstock logo. And the special "Double S" inlay at the 12th fret is also genuine MOP. This guitar also has single coils in the neck and middle positions, and our customer added the SSCII system (Silent Single Coil) to eliminate noise. All of which adds up to a deliciously understated $4K guitar. This one is headed to Japan today or tomorrow.

Have you looked into Don Grosh Bass guitars??? I have one, they are rare and yeah, kind of a clone but they are spectacular in tone.

Grosh also makes guitars, doesn't he? We also sell guitars here, and we had considered picking him up many moons ago. I didn't know he also made basses, that's awesome. That is exactly the sort of brand we look for, so thanks for the great idea!

Coincidentally - we currently carry Michael Tuttle guitars. IIRC, both Michael and Don Grosh spent time at Valley Arts guitars. And I think Michael also spent some time working for Grosh before taking off on his own. Michael made basses for a while, and we carried them for a couple years. Like his guitars, they were really, really nice. We just couldn't move enough of them to warrant a meaningful investment in inventory. Price point and brand awareness were probably the problems there.

Thank you! Yes, I owned 3 DG guitars awhile ago. The ElectraJets are killer!! The Retro Classic are butter in you hands. Cannot go wrong with Don. Mine above is a custom order with a custom one-off color. He will make whatever you want. Mine is solid body Alder/Brazilian with Lindy Fralin pups. Abalone dots. Aguilar OBP-2 active electronics. It has really nice low-end tone! Very Motowny! I'll check the weight but I think it is 9.0 pounds. The color is based on their Transparent Tobacco Burst, and mine is called Transparent Cherry Tobacco Burst.

AND I have your detuner here, ready to get installed as soon as the bass gets here.

I just put a detuner on my Lull P4, first time I've every actually used one on a personal bass of mine. What a clever little contraption that is, works like a charm. I need that for a bunch of tunes off "The Wall" album.

And absolutely agreed on the detuner. I keep telling myself that I don't really need them on my 4 strings, but I always seem to miss them when I don't have one. I was raised on 4 strings and somewhat frequently detune the E to D.

Suhr's are awesome! John makes his own pickups, which are really great. And the build quality is unbelievable.

The truss rod is adjusted at the heel. They offer a pickguard that has a semi-circular slot cut out of it so you can adjust the truss rod without taking off the pickguard. I think John prefers the look without that cutout, though, so that's how they come from his shop.

His basses are phenomenal, and he's priced himself either just or well underneath everyone else.

And his stuff is the real deal if you're after a '60's style j bass. The woods are right, the electronics are right (John's pickups are his own, and they are fantastic), and then he brings to bear the most modern technology (CNC, Plek, etc.) and the best people (John is a former Fender Custom Shop guy, and he also employs several other ex-Fender Custom Shop guys) to make a bass that practically plays itself. If he made a P style bass, I'd own one in a heartbeat.

My guitar player has one of his Tele's and it is one well made guitar. Sounds great also.
