Sunglasses

Well thanks guys, minds made up. A RayBan rep is going to be stopping by a local store on Thursday (by coincidence) so I'm going to go in and take a look at the options then. I've never been good with waits once I've made up my mind about doing something though... 3 days can seem like a while.

I bought a $120 pair of Ray Bans from Sunglass Hut. They ran me through the "ooo! aaaah!" deal with the fancy holographics and the polorized lenses. I went with unpolarized for $60 less.

The lens' weren't affixed to the frames in any way and twisting them meant the lens' popped out. I dropped them several times, so they got scratched. Finally, I lost em (left them somewhere).

They sure did look cool though!

I tried on a pair that was about 2x as expensive that had a flexible frame.... next time.

After a gig, I found a pair of HUGE aviator-style chick's sunglasses, left on the stage's side speakers. Reflective mirrored lenses, chrome frames... gay as all get out.

So I put them on and struck a Judas Priest pose. Hilarity ensued. You can't wear sunglasses like that with ANY seriousness.

My friends wanted to go out and buy me a leather biker cap before the next gig. Alas, they got crushed in my cargo pocket while loading gear back in after the next gig.

Where can I find these uber-cheesy style sunglasses???? I need to replace them!!!

+1 to all who say spend the cash. You get what you pay for and chances are you won't lose a $100 pair of sunglasses. I paid $75 for my Wayfarers 15+ years ago and I'm still rockin' them.

+1 yet again...paid $160 for my polarized Oakley Half Jackets 4 years ago and still haven't lost them despite them being my regular glasses for biking, skiing, climbing, paddling, canyoneering and anything else outdoors. Croakies would be a good idea, I even bought some, but they got lost somehow. I just make sure the glasses are secure on my face (tucked into my bandanna) or in their hard case in my pack if things get sketchy.

I just picked up a pair of Oakley Five's at Sunglass Hut for an amazing $140. They got those fancy polarized lenses that helps you see oil better or something. To tell you the truth, polarized lenses don't do s***. I haven't noticed any difference with the old pair of Oakley's I had with regular lenses. The salesman just showed me some picture without the glasses on then had me put them on and I saw all kinds of crap in the picture that was "invisible" due to the light's glare. I saw that and was like DUUUUDE RING EM UP!!! Moral of the story: treat yourself to a nice pair of shades.

If that's what you think, you either weren't wearing polarized glasses or they were crap lenses.

Try a polarized pair versus regular, same brand, same lens color. Look directly at the sun. The glare that the polarized lens reduces is significant, at least it is with my Persols.

Polarized lenses are well worth the extra money, especially if you drive a lot in a sunny desert climate.

yea i guess, but how often do you look directly at the sun? i seriously just paid the extra money because the color i liked wasn't available without polarized lenses lol.
