Sunglasses

So I've been thinking of replacing the $10 pair of stratched and bent cheapos with a nice pair of RayBans. To be honest I went and tried on the RayBans and there is totally a difference. Just felt in quality and in how the lenses refract light to the eyes (this might be in my head but I swear the cheapos skew images slightly).

Does anyone here have opinions on the $10 vs $100 sunglasses debate? I've heard people say they are like night and day, and then others say its the biggest waste of cash out there (funny these are the people without the glasses 100% of the time).

FWIW, these are the ones I'm thinking:

You never go wrong with Ray-Bans. Class, classic, quality, and they last for years. I've gotten up to 6 or 7 years from a pair of Ray-Bans.

Sunglasses don't do you any good unless they fit and you're wearing them. Cheapies are always scratched and uncomfortable. You get what you pay for.

Just DO it. And keep them in a hard case any time they're not ON your face.

Nice, 2 for 2 in under a few minute :) Yeah I started wearing glasses more religously this summer and its really nice not squinting all the time (plus people don't know as easily when you're all freshnicket at the downtown concerts ;) ). Well so far it seems overwhelming favor of the nice glasses.

I keep a nice or for wearing under normal conditions, right now I have a pair of Arnette's I like a lot. Then I also have a few cheapies that I use for the pool, beach, or anytime they could get wet, lost, scratched, etc.

DO THIS DO THIS DO THIS

get a quality pair of sunglasses off of ebay or craigslist.

OK, so not the newest piece of info, but I have bought 100 dollar ray bands for 20 bucks shipped, and others at about the percentage, and are so worth it. The good deals usually have slight wear on them, but scower both and you will find some great deals, and you'll be sportin sick shades for a great price.

Well, fist off; cheapo sunglasses don't protect your eyes. The UV protection on them is a spray on that's really thin. After a few cleanings, it's gone and all it's doing is giving your eyes a bit of shade, thus opening your pupils allowing more harmful UV rays to get into your eyes.

More expensive and quality sunglasses (Ray Bans, Oakley, etc.) have the UV protection infused into the lens, meaning it won't rub off during cleaning, hence actually protecting your eyes.

For many years I refused to buy a nice expensive pair for the simple reason that I always seem to either:
- lose them
- sit on them
- scratch them by putting them in a pocket with a set of keys, or something
- drop them and step on them

But I did eventually break down and buy a nice $150 pair of Ray Bans, mostly for driving -- I seem to always be heading west at sunset -- and indeed they make a huge difference. The only consideration is that you should look for as timeless a style as possible, so's you don't have to throw down for another pair when they go out of style. Oh, and make sure you get a nice sturdy case to store them in. And damn the torpedoes, as dumb as they look, I recommend a pair of croakies to keep them from falling off your face.

Exactly what I was going to say. Go the more expensive route and protect your eyes.

I wear $140 Oakleys every day. For me, it makes a lot of sense because I just CAN'T care about $10 CVS specials, they get scratched, broken, or lost every month or so. Then there's the $140 Oakleys that I care about and never let out of my sight, which will last me years. In the three to five years I'll get out of a pair of $140 Oakleys, I would've easilly spent twice that on cheapies. Not to mention the better lens quality.

I'm a big fan of good glasses.

I have a pair of Oakley sunglasses (but not the mp3 version :D). I also have one pair of cheap glasses in my car that I use whenever I forget the Oakley's at home.

A couple of years back as a poor student I never used expensive glasses, but you can really tell the difference. They fit much better, they don't skew the world as you see it and the UV protection is far more reliable. You also take better care of them when you've paid more for them.

Quality sunglasses all the way for me!
