sunn amps??

Congratulations! I just found this thread - I would have BEGGED you to run over there and make a deal. For $200 you got more bass amp than you can find anywhere else for the price.

Cherish that Sunn and never let it go. They are durable and they have a great classic sound. You got a GREAT deal at $200.

Read these Harmony-Central reviews and you'll be even happier with your new amp...and the price, since most of the reviewers paid $600-$800 for theirs:

o trust me its not going anywhere (just finished part 1 of restoration) aka remove all electronics from box and begin to clean tolex. tomorrow cleaning internals and polishing tolex(thinking about removing old tolex and making it match my 6x10 custom cab (neon green tolex) any ideas?

Does it have a line out for that? If not, just play it straight. Don't think you need to add a power amp to it. Be sure it won't hurt the Sunn to do that before you do.

You got a great deal. Clean it up, retube and you also might think about getting a tech to give it the once over to make sure all the parts are up to spec so you have any sudden problems in the future.

na it doesnt have an power amp in i was just gonna run it through my pa rig replacing the pa cabs with my 4 8x10s
i dont like this guy so im gonna keep pissing him off. but tech wise ive got a former sunn dealer / tech turned fender dealer in town so im gonna run er down there for eye candy next week

Be careful cleaning the internals. The capacitors are still storing a large load of electricity even though the amp is not plugged in. You can still get electrocuted so be careful what you touch.

ohm meter is my best freind:D ive been electricuted before by amps and have since learned my lesson. ps i need opinions on whether or not to redo the tolex neon green "my custom cab" is purple due to my clashy color preferences but how hard is a sunn 2x15 to get ahold of ?

I'm not feeling as good about this classic amps future
I think the vast majority of us would vote to leave it alone and play it; no matter what mod you make, it will range from bad to very bad

how so, i am doing no technical modification if any at all just cleaning, after sitting in someones closet for god knows how long the tolex cets scuffed and worn by age, and dust builds in places it shouldnt, ive previously hand wired my own heads and cabs so i dont doubt my ability to simply dust and refine the appearance of this head (even though i probably would be saying the same thing if i wasnt the one doing the work) but i have decided to not redo the tolex the original came out much better than i was expecting if anyones interested ill be posting pics of the before and after later this week if i find a camera.

I was thinking the neon green tolex was the bad idea
Any old guitar or amp that has the original but super worn, scratched, faded, beat up finish is always more valuable than a shiny new refinish
Seems to be 100% true for any Fender or Gibson guitar as well as Fender or Marshall amp; would assume this holds true for Sunn as well
