SUNN Sceptre - Question about usage with bass.

Yeah, I might have to look into those speakers. I've got no problem switching some speakers out to try some different sounds. The cabinets themselves are wonderful, and the bigger 105 which measures 36Hx30Wx15D is a monster. I'll try out the stock speakers and see how they hold up, and then focus perhaps on different speakers.

that's your best bet, dealing w/the speaker part of the equation seems the longest and hardest part, but it matters sooooo much.

Edit: when you get ready to start playing w/driver swapping, do searches here on TB for advice and make WinISD a friend, will help you quite a bit. Dealing w/bass drivers is VERY different than guitar drivers.

It's funny you mention that, because I have two ACC 469 cabinets, nearly identical in their build. The older cabinet has the original Eminence speakers while the newer of the two has Celestion G12T-75's, and there is a BIG difference in their overall sound. I am convinced both have the same amount of use, which is very minimal and the speakers on both may not even have been broken in before I snatched them up. Even with that being said they both sound completely different and suited for each of their application. I find the G12T-75's to be better for the overdrive and fuzz tones while the original Eminences have a great clean chime.

If and when needed, I'm stoked to be looking into speakers for the bass cabinet.

I've got a few random speakers from various other cabinets in storage here at home, and they all are wrapped with silica gel packets in cardboard boxes to keep them fresh.

From what you describe, sounds like the band's stage volume is pretty high...

hi--i'm not sure if this answer helps you, but i have a 1969 sunn studio pa...i believe it's the exact config. of the sceptre but with no reverb. my amp guru rehabbed it about 5 years ago, including 2 new kt88's. (came with 6550's) he tells me the amp makes 80 watts or more. i believe it, as when playing guitar thru my home-built 412 with 2 eminence v12's and 2 celestion g80H's, it screams with wonderful greasy vintage tone...i'm just not sure the sceptre is gonna have the fat bottom end you want...

Can I plug 4ohm cab direct into Sceptre's external 4ohm output or should I use dummy plug into 8ohm output and then 4ohm cab into external 4ohm output? Or Y cable is the only option?

Also, does anybody know if the amp can be switched to European voltage?

I had a Sceptre as a bass head, bought it from a TBer and then sold it to another TBer... all 3 of us used it in band settings. If you want modern hifi slap type tone... go elsewhere. Looking for nice classic rock to doom bass grind, it might do you nicely

A friend of my Mother in-law asked me yesterday "I have a tube amp in my basement, you can have it. Get it out" so I went there and got the beast. I saw it, big amp head with a naugahyde cover on top of a big rectangular cabinet with a cover. My heart started racing thinking "Bassman, SVT, Model T, Marshall 100, Vox Super Beatle." I was freaking excited. I took a peak under the head cover and saw ''Sunn" and was hoping to myself "Model T or Colosseum."

Soon as I got home I checked out the cab that has 4 12's and was thinking if it will survive the onslaught of my low grind when I play with my blues band, I already blew out a 10" from a Acoustic 410 bass cab at a gig when I played though a Peavey MKVI. We're not too loud but I like lots of low end, if the windows are vibrating, I'm happy.

Then I took the cover off the head and looked at the back to check out the tubes and transformer which looks good,
then I saw the name on the front of the head "Sceptre," my heart sank. This is a guitar amp and I play bass.

I'm hoping that I can use this as a bass amp, one of the most amazing bass amps I remember was a 50-watt Fender Bassman that I used to use in High school in the early 80's. The low end from that thing will rattle the fillings in your teeth. I'm hoping I can use this guy for our live shows.
